Instinct solar freezes

Hi,

Since the last update of the firmware (I have now version 11), my instinct solar keeps freezing up. Sometimes, the main watchface is hours behind the actual time and a click of a button "wakes it up" and it shows the correct time, but mostly I need to soft-reset it and of course lose everything that I did on that day.

This did not happen with earlier firmwares but now happens more and more... :-/

I did not set any "power saving mode" nor do I have set the "automated key lock" (I hope this is the right name for it, I am using a german UI).

It almost always happens over night. Two days ago, at 630 AM the display read 445 AM. Today at 755 AM it reads 230 AM (and BTW I did not wear the watch last night as it was charging...)

I was a very happy customer, but now I am really starting to lose confidence in the watch.

And yes, I have restarted the watch quite a few times ;-)

Anybody else experiencing similar issues?

Do I have to revert to a prior version of the firmware? And if so how do I do this and where do I get this firmware from?

*Any* help is greatly appreciated!

Cheers.

Pascal

  • After the latest freeze had this in debug file:

    Reset loop count: 1
    Reset loop count: 1
    Reset loop count: 1
    Reset loop count: 1
    Reset loop count: 1
    Reset loop count: 1
    Reset loop count: 1

  • Mine just froze again for the second time in 4 days Saturday night (oin 13.20)

  • Contact Garmin tech support or customer service.

I called them this morning and they were super helpful.

Due, mu device only was 3 days old, they arranged me a new one and UPS to pick up the old.

The guy on the phone was mentioning, they have a new beta out already, which should fix the problem. They can send you the file in email.

Also, he advised against the automatic softwear update via phone. He was suggesting to switch off auto update and rather do it on Garmin Express.

  • My Instinct Solar froze when I simultaneously use Edge 530 connected to my smartphone (Huawei P30 lite). It happened 4/5 times, and every time while using the Edge 530

  • I'm wondering if this could be related to how the watch stops updating parts of the screen after a time... I've noticed seconds display stops updating after a time and comes back eventualy... and noticed the 3 times this thing has frozen, seconds were not being displayed.

  • Im now convinced this issue is related to syncing two devices to one GC account - at least for me. I have a new Instinct Solar replacement that replaced my original watch for this same issue. New watch been perfect for its initial month. Yesterday, for the first time since owning the new watch I synced my Fenix 5x to my GC account - this AM on waking, the Instinct is frozen. I had to reboot to fix.

It's the syncing of more than one device (and switching preferred tracker) that's the problem. I'm sure of it.

  • I am experimenting with it at the moment. Switched off auto sync and no freeze since.

Do you have Android or iOS device?

  • I only have onde device (the instinct solar), and my device freezes...

  • Android - Im sure its switching trackers that's the issue. Also, my watch freezes during sleep for some reason.

  • Mine was freezing at first just during the night, than later any time of the day.

    It had 13.20 on it.

Now I have a temp device until the new replacement will turn up. It has 7.70 firmware on it. Still frozen during the night. The data was up to date on my phone until the frozen time on the watch screen. My guess, when the phone is in questionable range from the watch, something goes wrong with the sync.

Two totally different batch, two end of the spectrum firmware, no other device paired, same phone. It points the direction of the phone...
