Problem with tracking in inReach Mini

Hello everyone,

I am very new to the world of the inReach mini and although i looked through the very informative message exchange I could not find a solution to my problem so I apologise in advance if i didnt find the solution and its already there. Any help will be greatly appreciated.

I had my unit for about a month now and took it out to few outings. In order to log my route I enable the tracking function and i have it set at 2 minutes interval (for my plan the sending to mapshare is standard 10 minutes). I always clear the log, stop tracking and then start it again at the end of my route I always stop tracking. I have created a new collection where the track is saved so when back on the computer and after a wired synchronisation the track is in two places:

i) the sent to mapshare collection and

ii) the one i have created for this purpose.

In order to keep track separately i have a few different collections and after syncing I move it to the appropriate collection. So far so good. Now the problem:

The tracking doesnt start fresh every time but continues from the previous track. the result is that all of them are connected and the very first one keeps increasing in distance and time but it is not possible to see each one of them separately as they are always superimposed with this information. If I run a loop on the same route i followed there are two tracks on the map, the one which is fresh (at 10 minute intervals) and the older one which contains the 2 minute interval information.

I believe i am doing something wrong but after having deleted multiple tracks and attempted to resolve the issue I thought I will ask here in case someone has experienced a similar issue and found a solution.

Thank you in advance for any help

  • This might just be a glitch on the web site. Or not. The Mini has no map. Don’t recall if there is any other way to review logged (as opposed to sent) points.

When you stop tracking, the unit sends an “end of track” marker. Be sure you wait for it to actually transmit. If you turn the unit off and it warns you that it has unsent data, wait for it to send.

I am also unclear on when you clear the log in the device.

  • Thanks very much for your reply. Much appreciated. I clear the log always just after I start a new track as there is not an option to do it before. Having said that I just updated to the latest firmware so maybe that will make a difference.

it might of course be a glitch but I don’t know how that could be resolved and if there is anything I can do through settings.

once more thanks very much for your kind reply
