Have any GPSMAP inreach units caught fire?

We've reached out Garmin and have a return ticket, we'll send it back this week. My concern and question to the forum is "has anyone experienced a fire with there Inreach GPSMAP devices?".…

Open a support ticket, whether it's still under warranty or not.

We've reached out Garmin and have a return ticket, we'll send it back this week. My concern and question to the forum is "has anyone experienced a fire with there Inreach GPSMAP devices?". Our biggest offshore sailing fear is a fire.

How did you get the battery out of the device? Was there any internal damage?

We removed the back, 6 screws, then removed the battery. The battery was deformed but I did not see any indication of damage to the unit itself. I was hoping the battery was replaceable but it appears to have been soldered in place.

The good news is it did not catch fire this time!

In any case, DO NOT send that battery anywhere by air!
