Software Version 22.20 (crash??)

Hi,

I have been for months and months (almost 3 and half years) a lucky owner of a Garmin Fenix 5X Saphire... no issues with crashes or battery (usually lasts 10 to 18 days, depending on exercise level), always worked fine (only known problem is altitude, need to update correct altitude almost every morning).

Last night (4 AM) woke up, tried to see the time and the watch was showing a loop between Garmin Blue Triangle and phrase "converting GPX files... been there for at least 3 hours.

SOFT RESET, no change, HARD RESET the same... then remember the RESET LIGHT+START+BACK, when need to release START at 1st beep and release all at 2nd beep.

Done it  a few times (3 or 4) and at a certain point HEART RATE light came on and it boot OK, losing everything of course. Need to pair it again (still not receiving alerts), etc etc.

After that I realise, as the AUTO SOFTWARE UPDATE was ON, that the new software version was already installed. I reckon that was the cause for the crash all this stupid lost of settings.

At a certain point I thought that I need to bring the Fenix 3 out again, but luckily all seems to be ok now.

Anyone has experienced this?

Regards,

RL

  • My 5x are actually performing way better with 22.20 regarding altitude and barometer data. Much more correct and stable data readings. Its good as version 19.2( or something) when it was new, data degraded with updates after 19.xx. until now. Good

  • I am sorry your watch is having issues after updating your software over the weekend. Here is the main tracking case on this issue with information on how to resolve the issue.

    Software Version 22.20 (Crash?)

  • Thanks! it worked... , although I did it earlier today with a tech... I had too click light to turn off the watch, then press and hold down start, back, and down together... and press light to start up the watch, and after the second beep, let go of start and hold the other two down until it boots + reset to what it was like when I first bought it

  • the original poster posted in RE: Garmin Fenix 5X Saphire which is the same version I own, it did get stuck on loading GPX maps, probably related to the other thread I guess, but I couldn't find that earlier today. I am actually not sure which software version I am running, since I let the watch do auto updates mostly.

  • The fenix 5s, I was able to follow the instructions and power it off. Now I am unable to turn it back on. Is the start button the power button?

  • It came back on but with the triangle :-(

  • Please try the secondary reset steps 2-3 times. If you continue to have issues, please highlight my name and send me a Private Message or contact Outdoor Product Support. We will be happy to help you further.

  • It worked finally, and I had to restart and login to the app as well. How do I change the face of the watch?

  • Good night,

What a big *** up you have done, Garmin guys

I am using and paid for it, Garmin gear for the last 15 years, had so many watches I don't really remember most of them, moved from Polar so so long ago and loved the difference in those days.

Knowing that not all was good with Fenix 5x I always gave you the benefit, altimeter and barometer have been really bad compared with Fenix 3 (living at sea level part of the year, most days I woke up with 10 to 20 meters difference... Fenix 3 spot on always, even if I go upstairs it will show the difference).

I always trusted you with new software updates, even if it wasn't perfect, things never felt like the *** was getting on the fan...

Due to the altimeter/barometer problem (never had other issues) I put a lot of faith in the last software update, because you mention altimeter corrections... I describe already the problem I had when my watch get the update, completely *** up all my settings, but after several tries I managed to get it running again... but...

Now, I cannot get it connected with my phone to receive messages, alerts, etc... even if it keeps sending me alerts that the pair (phone / watch) is connected and disconnected every 5 minutes.

The altimeter (yes, it's clean) instead of giving errors of 10 to 20 meters as before (living now at exactly 225 meters), changes randomly between 50 and 150 meters errors.

Before I need to correct the altitude every morning, now I need to do it at least every 5 hours (what the f*** have you done, not possible to copy/adjust Fenix 3 software, which it's really good) I keep receiving storm alerts, even if the weather keeps the same (barometer values also change randomly, moving in steps instead of a sinusoid curve).

I am an engineer myself and if my quality standard was something near your standard, I reckon I was already unemployed.

Please, once and for all, give yourself sometime, look at things properly and honour the equipment you are working on... Fix the bloody thing and give me back my Fenix 5X...
