fenix Chronos Software Update 18.1 breaking Bluetooth?

My Chronos updated automatically the other day to 18.1 and Bluetooth stopped working.  I could not get my watch to pair with my phone.  I did a hard reset back to 18.0 and bluetooth was restored.  TODAY....my watch auto-updated again, and again Bluetooth has stopped working.  Anyone else???

I have downgraded with 16.30 as you suggested and my watch is now working again.

For the last 4 hours no bluetooth disconnects, and all notifications are now reaching the phone.

    Thanks

    Dear All,

I solved the connection problem between Chronos and Iphone
    1. Firmware downgrade to 16.30 by Garmin Express
    2. Remove Garmin apps on Iphone and reinstall from Appstore
    3. Follow instructions as stated in Garmin manual

    All settings are gone!
That's the side effect on this or previous adviced solution (Meaning GUPDATE.GCD)
I advice all Chronos users also to turn off autoupdate for the future.

  • This temporary fix worked for me.  Rolled back Chronos to 16.30.  Turned OFF Auto-Updates.  Watch has stayed connected for several days now.  Re-connects when phone is away from device and when phone restarts.  Hopefully you guys are working on a fix for this in a future update.

  • We pulled the 18.10 update and are working on a long term solution. At this point I don't have an estimated time frame but I will post the newest update when it goes into rollout phase. I apologize for any inconvenience and hope you all have a good Holiday.

    Hello Enrique,

First of all thank you for the continuing work on this, a bit older, watch.
Yes, I was irritated by the update, although it’s fixed now and Garmin admits making a mistake.

Now what can we want more overseeing the field of competitors on this market?

Just keep up your supportive attitude, looking forward to the update and for now happy holidays!

  • Hi Enrique,

I am having trouble with my Chronos and bluetooth pairing with my iPhone X on the latest IOS. I have followed the steps on the garmin page regarding the latest connect app and the bluetooth safe modes yet I have had no joy. When I connect the watch to a computer via garmin express, it says I am on software 16.30, however the watch, even after syncing, says I am on 18.10.

Also, how or where do we find the \GARMIN directory to drop the GUPDATE.GCD file?

    Cheers,

    Rob

  • I have version 18.00. Is this fixed in 18.10 and where I get this?

    Garmin Express dont offer update.

Sync with phone and heart rate monitor works  max 2 days. Then after restore to defaults it works again 2 days . Thanks Garmin Disappointed

  • Rob-good,

It appears you are still on 18.10 if the watch is telling you this. Once you are able to backdate to 16.30 it should address that pairing issue.

To get to the Garmin directory to backdate:

    1. Connect your Chronos to the computer
    2. Locate the Chronos drive on your computer
    3. Open the drive and locate the Garmin folder
    4. Drag and drop the GUPDATE.GCD file into the Garmin folder
    5. Unplug the Chronos from the computer and allow the 16.30 update when prompted

IMPORTANT: Please be aware that once you back date that all your setting will be reset to default and you may lose all saved data on the watch. So it would be a good idea to sync before doing this to backup all your activities.
