Battery draining 30% per day on Fenix 5

Just within the last week my battery has been draining extremely fast on my Fenix 5.  It is dropping 30% per day, without any GPS use.  What can I do to fix this problem?  I have only had this watch for 5 months.  The software version is 14.2

  • Same problem here. Default settings, no custom watch faces, no data fields, nothing installed from iq store, 20% brightness for 8 seconds. Syncing two times a day via wifi/bt. 4 widgets installed - heart rate, performance, last sport, steps. 4-6 days battery life. I've tried to disable hr sensor, and also step counting, with no change on battery life. No updates pending in Garmin connect. Garmin service sent me device back with message, that battery is completely ok. Twice. At this point I'm more or less convinced to get rid of f5. And Garmin.

  • I believe it to be related to the latest beta, because I did not have this issue prior. Garmin please release a repair update!!

  • No, it is not. I have this problem since I bought f5 - almost a year now.

I have a Fenix 3hr, but had the same issue--6%/day drop with no GPS, then it started dropping 30-50%/day.  I cleaned the back of the watch with alcohol and toothbrush, and now it is back to normal.

  • On fenix 5 plus I'm getting 38% drain per 24 hours in smartwatch mode with everything off and nothing connected, or installed. With one or two small workouts I'm having to charge every day or two. The watch is only 15 months old. Software version 13.00 (there are no updates available). Contacted garmin support but heard nothing back in over a week.

A quick clean with rubbing alcohol and a q-tip has absolutely fixed my Fenix 5 Plus battery drain issue.

Great!  I think there was a bit of a short between the contacts from salt buildup.

  • I have the same problem with my fenix 5 plus. This is unbelievable. I clean my watch after every run with flowing water, and I can't see any dirt on or between the contacts. But I will try to clean it with alcohol and hope it helps, because I already did a lot of things, but nothing helps (normally 10% per day drain, now about 2% per hour...)

  • Is this really true? There seem to be rubber/plastic material to seal it off around the contacts on the watch - isn't there a risk that you end up with a non water proof watch if you use alcohol to clean it with? Do you know if Garmin has commented on this?

The case material is a glass filled plastic, likely nylon, which is resistant to alcohol.  The back of my 3hr is all one piece, and the contacts are likely sealed on the backside, as I don't see a separate piece between the two.  If you make quick work of it and wipe it down, I wouldn't worry about it.  Or use another cleaner that might be friendlier.  I didn't get this recommendation from Garmin, just tried it myself.. been in my hot tub and shower many times since with no issues.
