Since the 3 got a lot of the 5 stuff, how much of the 6 series software do we expect to get for the 5 series?

It would be cool if the 5 at least got some of the layout/OS display changes that the 6 has, just to bring it a bit more upto date/inline. Not necessarily the features, just a fresher feel. Personally I don't have any of the issues other people mention with their F5s. Maybe they're still to come. The only issue I have is with then oHR being a bit dodgy but that's just the nature of oHR. Battery life seems fine. I do 3 1HR GPS runs a week, have auto backlight on when I raise my wrist and also track HIIT classes. I get about 10 days battery. That's fine for me.

  • There is literally no reason why the 5 Series watches dont get some of the UI changes like widgets or even the ClimbPro feature. When a company doesn't update the recently released watches with new software features it should have it makes you want to upgrade less frequently and also not to recommend the watch to anyone else.

  • When a company doesn't update the recently released watches with new software features it should have it makes you want to upgrade less frequently and also not to recommend the watch to anyone else.

So in the past 1-2 years you’ve had your 5 series watch, you’ve never once want to tell someone how cool your watch is and how many functions and features it had? Because Garmin isn’t going to upgrade your watch, you’re not going to recommend it to anyone?

Try being an Android user (who doesn’t have a Pixel) and see how frequently your phone gets updated after you buy it.

  • You are comparing a premium brand (Garmin) to third party Android phones that cost $100-$200? These watches cost $600-1000 and should be compared to an Iphone or even Pixel which get 3 years of updates, Iphones even longer. These are not $100 Fitbit watches and shouldnt be treated like so

  • I agree, they should at least update the Fenix 5 and 5+ series with some of the more basic functions like the new widget screens and power management. Then they could offer the more advanced new features as a paid upgrade.

I'm pretty sure there are hardware limitations between the 5 and 6 to be able to include new features, even as a paid upgrade. A refreshed UI more in line with the 6 could be implemented, however the 6 UI is based on the newer size screen and might not transpire very well on the standard 5.

I agree, while cosmetic software updates would seem the easiest, in this particular case they might be among the hardest (requiring too much resource from Garmin's software and UI team) due to the difference in screens.

Shame though. The new widget layout is pretty cool.

Absolutely not. Back when I bought Android phones, I was buying the premium versions, like the Note series, etc. I switched to iOS due to the commitment that Apple makes to its customers (and they actually state that commitment in writing).

Garmin doesn’t make that commitment, right wrong or indifferent. Garmin still has updates for the 5 series, be happy.

  • I will be happy if nobody will buy their nex expensive watches. Then I can bet garmin will implement new features to the oldest watches. And even more, they will start release softwares without hundreds of bugs. But this we can only dream, because there are a lot of people's who have to much money to spend, and they don't care if they are buying something that it is problematic from the beginning.

  • I'd be happy, if they would fix their software flaws first, instead of implementing new features.

I have no use for new features, as long as my battery is always deleted within two days without any activty using gps.
