Since the 3 got a lot of the 5 stuff, how much of the 6 series software do we expect to get for the 5 series?

You are comparing a premium brand (Garmin) to third party Android phones that cost $100-$200? These watches cost $600-1000 and should be compared to an Iphone or even Pixel which get 3 years of updates…
Don't be sad. If you were buying FENIX6, in the end it will have the same faith as all of the garmin devices. So, no more new features(garmin have to milk the new cow, fenix6). Keep and enjoy your
…It would be cool if the 5 at least got some of the layout/OS display changes that the 6 has, just to bring it a bit more upto date/inline. Not necessarily the features, just a fresher feel. Personally…
Just found my own answer in DC Rainmaker's responses to comments in his review and that would be a flat NO. None of the new software.
What must hurt 5+ series owners is that Garmin labelled them legacy! Ouch! They're not getting anything either. I get the 5 series being a whole version before but the pluses many of which having been bought recently is really going to turn people off.
But Garmin will do Garmin
That is so sad. I recently bought the F5x expecting F6 to be out in 2020. What a unfortunate to know that my unit won't be receiving any new feature.
If by recently you mean still within the grace period, you have the option of returning it and getting the 6. Otherwise, the price of the 5 series should be coming down.
For my use, the 5X still does the job just fine. When series 7 or 8 go full solar I'll rethink
I completely agree. For sports, f5 is enough for a chest pulse sensor, which my watch can handle. I also read the review of f6 .. Cool chips are, but they do not affect my result in sports. In general, f5 needs only a good battery .. I'll wait and try f7 and f8 for autonomy .. The solar battery is an interesting move, but it doesn’t scare me with a full charge. And not a full charge for Li-ion is the most harmful ..
Honestly, I would be happy if they focussed any future effort on getting the 5 working perfectly, with no more software bugs.
I'd be super reluctant for them to half-ass a bunch of 6 features in knowing how badly they seem to implement updates.
The 5, when working properly, should do everything I need.
The 5 I have at the moment has broken battery life, issues syncing Strava over Connect, the navigation 0 bug, dodgy outdoor swimming GPS (which I see the beta GPS is addressing) and so on.
The 6 will undoubtedly have many issues of it's own on release and a lot of this is down to prioritising the constant push for new features over stability, and we drive that as consumers. The amount of people I've seen selling their 5 series this week to pay over the odds to have a 6 is insane.
I bought mine cheap knowing that the 6 was coming. I too would just like my 5 to work as advertised. The last two updates have been anything but.
Don't be sad. If you were buying FENIX6, in the end it will have the same faith as all of the garmin devices. So, no more new features(garmin have to milk the new cow, fenix6). Keep and enjoy your feniix5 until it will die. You will have time about 5 to 9 years. Don't spend money on something new from Garmin. It does not worth it. And if you will want the new 6 then wait 2 years and you will find it on eBay at more than half of the price.
Yes I too just want my Fenix5 to work as advertised for so many areas. At the rate that my charging connector is rusting after 2 months, I will be surprised it will even work in 6 months time. Garmin appear to use the same changing connector on the Fenix 6!
Not in the grace period anymore, unfortunately. I see wisdom in your choice. I use mine just as a hiking watch and I have a solar panel separately so ...
I agree with everyone saying we need a stable 5(X,S) more urgently than any of the 6 stuff. Unfortunately we are far far from it.
