Treadmill Calibration seems broken on Software 14.10 and 14.20 Fenix 5X

After the update to software version 14.10 and after updating to 14.20 my treadmill runs have been throwing slower paces in the order of 12minutes /km when the machine is giving me just below 8 minutes/km, I have ended the treadmill activity about 2 or 3 times with the calibrate and save option entering the actual distance, but it seems there is no change, and the runs after calibrating keep the slow pace.

Same problem.  It was fine until I took a day off from work and was able to run outside when the sun was out.  That run threw off my treadmill calibration (my stride length is longer when outside vs on a treadmill).  I calibrated my Fenix 5 twice now, and it actually seems to showing me running slower rather than correcting it.  If you use Strava, Strava doesn't show the corrected/calibrated distance/pace.  It shows the original, incorrect distance/pace.  Very annoying.

I've had the same problem.  My Fenix 5 clocks me at twice my actual pace and calibrating does nothing.  It used to work just fine.  Very annoying.

It supposedly is fixed if you force your watch to update to the 14.76 beta version. I have made multiple attempts following the instructions on Garmin's site but I can't seem to get my watch to update.  The files copy over as described in the instructions but when I disconnect  my watch from the computer it doesn't update and I can't figure out if there is a way to force it to update and accept the new version.

Here is a link to a page where you can download the new version and instructions on how to install it.

  • Had the same issue, but was able to perform the upgrade once I matched the version with my watch. My watch is a fenix 5x, make sure the beta software is for the 5x not the 5 or vice versa.

  • Relax guys! Garmin is testing betas! And we are stuck with a watch not working properly for more than 3 months.

Denhoffk, thank you for the tip. I was trying to use the 5X update and my watch is a 5.  Got the right download, went through the procedure of copying the files and when I unplugged the watch from the computer it prompted me to install the update. I installed the update then went on the treadmill this morning.  I ran one mile on the treadmill which my watch recorded as .7 miles. Interesting that recently the gap between the treadmill distance and the watch distance has been diminishing. Initially a 1 mile run would have recorded on my watch as 0.4 miles. I stopped and calibrated the watch to 1 mile. Then I started a new activity and ran 4 miles on the treadmill.  My watch recorded that is 3.82 miles.  I'm happy with that considering that the second run was at a higher pace then the 1 mile warmup.  I do agree with others though that I am disappointed in Garmin with their attention to this problem.  The first time in many years of using Garmin devices that I can say that I am unhappy with their resolution to a problem.

As others have mentioned below, I upgraded my watch to the beta version 14.77 and it fixed the issue for me.

  • My watch updated today, I think it said 10.0.  Anyways - I ran 3.5 miles on a treadmill and it said around 1.6, I calibrated it to 3.5.  Then I ran another 3.5 and it captured as 3.56, so it seems fixed for me.  Pretty poor on garmins part to let this happen and then linger on a watch we all paid a hefty premium for.
