Treadmill Calibration seems broken on Software 14.10 and 14.20 Fenix 5X

After the update to software version 14.10 and after updating to 14.20 my treadmill runs have been throwing slower paces in the order of 12minutes /km when the machine is giving me just below 8 minutes/km, I have ended the treadmill activity about 2 or 3 times with the calibrate and save option entering the actual distance, but it seems there is no change, and the runs after calibrating keep the slow pace.

Oh, nice catch! That's a good idea! Let me know if that works!

  • I've done a few treadmill runs since hard reseting my watch. All the runs have me at almost double the stride, which equates to a unrealistic speed and total distance for the run. Of note, I use an HRM-Run chest strap for both inside and outside runs and outside runs in the same period have the correct stride(s). I wonder if the reason I'm seeing faster/longer runs than everyone else is the fact I'm using a chest strap and everyone else is relying on the watch ? Either way something in the calculation of the data is messing up.

  • Like others here, I have the "same" issue. Treadmill runs have me at roughly 4min per mile faster than whatever pace I'm running. I keep calibrating but it never changes. According to the watch I'm logging back to back sub 15 min 5ks on a treadmill that doesn't even go that fast at its highest speed...

  • That isn't the fix, like so many of Garmin's untested patches in the past, the "fix" for an issue is exactly is actually the cause of a worse one. I cannot fathom how garmin STILL refuses to Beta test software patches and new products.

Dear all, I suggest everyone logs this report to Garmin @

    https://support.garmin.com

Increase the pressure for Garmin to take action or its just a string of long thread here with ppl agreeing with each other but no action by Garmin

I agree. Just use the chat or call. They will tell you there is already a ticket started and they will add you to the ticket.

I have the same issue.  I'm submitting a report to Garmin today. Has anyone tried fudging the calibration by telling the Garmin you ran twice as far as the treadmill displays?  I'm going to try it on my next run.

  • Nope.  Did nothing.  First, the watch won't let you enter more than 2x the actual run distance  Past that, no matter what number I DO enter, it remains stuck on the 0.62 factor.

    Stunningly frustrating.

  • Doesn't do it.

First, you can't report more than 2x your "reported" distance.

Second, even if you do, the error amount does not change, at least on my watch.

So Garmin was nice enough to send me an new watch, a fenix 5s plus.  I was so hopeful.  But I just opened a new case with Garmin as the problem came right back after upgrading the app:

Hey there, this is related to my case that was just closed, Reference ID: 14805131K1. You were nice enough to send me this replacement fenix 5S plus watch to hopefully fix the calibration problem.  I charged it, ran 2 runs and it calculated and calibrated near perfectly!  And then, I made a rookie mistake.  I updated the Garmin to the most recent version available.  My bad.  Now the calibration is woefully broken - again.  I am still on iOS 12.4.1.  Is there any chance the calibration engineer/team can provide insight as to when they might fix this?  Sadly this new watch is rendered useless for the reason I purchased it.  It's astounding to me that this problem continues to persist as it was first reported by me in August.

    So so sad.
