Treadmill Calibration seems broken on Software 14.10 and 14.20 Fenix 5X

After the update to software version 14.10 and after updating to 14.20 my treadmill runs have been throwing slower paces in the order of 12minutes /km when the machine is giving me just below 8 minutes/km, I have ended the treadmill activity about 2 or 3 times with the calibrate and save option entering the actual distance, but it seems there is no change, and the runs after calibrating keep the slow pace.

Just checked my stride length for the last treadmill run, and it was registering 0.55, but I know I'm generally around 1.1. I'm pretty sure everything is just off by a factor of 0.5!

  • Mine seems to get worse every time I calibrate.  I will say that being able to calibrate each time at least means that the data is going into connect accurately.

I asked support about it and they told me to do a hard reset.  Anyone have a less drastic solution?  Garmin, I love you guys and in this market you're the Apple not Apple.  Bit you gotta start to act like it.

Imagine if Numbers on my iPad Pro was spitting out 12/2 = 24 and Apple told me to do a clean install to fix it.

  • My calibration seems to get worse very time

I did a hard reset, which worked ok for one run, and then after the first calibration it returned to estimating my stride lengths were half as long as they should be

  • I am doing a clean install on my iPad today, it is a healthy thing to do every once in a while, but I'm not going to do it to fix a problem if it doesn't work.  Thanks for the intel.

I have this problem as well. It started a few days back. I have a Fenix 6 pro.Since a few days I run almost twice as fast .... I can calibrate and correct the distance, but I have to do this after every run.

:/ the tech support guy I was talking to said it was probably a software issue, and that the fenix 6 has some reports of this happening. I was hoping they were spared, but it sounds like not!

My Fenix 5s is getting worse with time as well.  I run 6.1 miles every morning and it's reporting just over 2.  And the even more fun part is it won't let me calibrate up to 6 miles, only up to 4.. I guess the delta is too big.  I wish the team/engineer for this problem would chime in here.. oh we can dream. =)  Anyway, everyone needs to open a support ticket.  It's the only way they *might* hear us:

    Good luck. =)

  • It seems like the watch doesn't let you change the distance beyond about double of what was recorded. However, you can still change the distance further than that by editing the activity in the app or on the website.

  • Mine has been doing it for several weeks.  It's reporting almost exactly 0.62 of my actual distance, which is the suspiciously the same relationship as that between a kilometer and a mile.

As a test, I think I'm going to try the following tomorrow:

    1. Run and record my distance on the treadmill.
    2. Do a calibration, but report 1.6 times my distance in the calibration step (i.e. tell it how many kilometers I've gone instead of miles)
    3. Go into the app and change the running distance to the actual miles so that my overall stats are correct.

Next run after tomorrow will be Saturday.  We'll see how that goes.
