Fenix 6 this year?

When is Garmin likely to replace the Fenix 5 Pus with a new model, such as the Fenix 6?  This summer or are we now looking at spring/summer

2020 before we see an updated model?  Trying to decide whether to purchase the FR 945 to get latest software updates or to wait for new Fenix.

  • Nice review by Rainmaker. Watch does look nice but enough to flip.... maybe if the Wife buys it for me at Christmas.. :-)

  • It looks interesting; here's my first take without having one to play with at this point.

Pluses include a materially smaller bezel, so larger display area and somewhat thinner (not really much of a factor for me, but will be for some), better pitch on the "S" models for the pins (smaller wrist people will like) and adjustment for both altitude and temperature on the VO2Max calcs along with a few other things (e.g. pacing) look like nice enhancements.

One BIG potential minus -- it appears they've gone back to spring pins for the band.  The screw pins on my 5x are nearly indestructible and make a non-looped NATO strap viable without a lot of risk of losing the watch.  To break one of those screw pins you pretty much have to cut your wrist off.  NOT SO for any spring-loaded pin device.

The problem is that you can't USE a double-loop NATO strap (one that runs under both pins) because it blocks the OHR sensor window.  So if I "upgrade" I give up what WAS a nearly bomb-proof design for strap attachment for one that's just ordinary.  I'm not sure I'm willing to do that.

I guess if and when I have a problem with my 5X I might consider a 6X..... Maybe.

I see this review https://www.dcrainmaker.com/2019/08/garmin-fenix6-pro-solar-series-review.html/comment-page-2#comment-3305709 about the Fenix 6.

Looks great. (So does the 5x on paper and to be fair it mostly is a great bit of gear...)

Love the ultra-long GPS mode. I'd use that. Could have done with it on a recent weekend in the snow. Hourly gps 'fixes'. Hmm, not to be picky, but I wonder if I can turn that down to 10 mins?

Nothing in the review about routing from maps and navigational prompts. Wonder if it can do that and if so does it work better than the 5x 945 with its '0 m till next' and often incorrect projected elevation profile bugs.

15, 30, 45, 60, 75, 90 minutes are all options for the recording interval for Expedition Mode.
