Fenix 6 this year?

When is Garmin likely to replace the Fenix 5 Pus with a new model, such as the Fenix 6?  This summer or are we now looking at spring/summer

2020 before we see an updated model?  Trying to decide whether to purchase the FR 945 to get latest software updates or to wait for new Fenix.

  • I am in the same boat. The 5x has been nothing but a pleasure since I bought it. Is it 100% perfect? Nope! But I do not regret spending the money I did on it.

  • They've released previous Fenixes in winter Iı think. So I think they may release it in winter again, and until that time they try to sell MARQ series as much as possible.

  • It seems it'll come much earlier than I think. I'm preparing money to buy, if it really worths...

  • Me too, I'd wait at least an hour after they announce it before I'll pre-order...

  • You cannot know is it worth until you have it for a longer period of time. If you take marketing claims as an authority for is something worth or not then you just wasted your money. Garmin is known (as other vendors too) for releasing beta products so you basically pay for being their beta tester.

It is better to resist the urge of buying it for a whole year and then decide is it worth or not, based on experience of other paying beta testers Smile

FYI I had three their Fenix watches bought almost immediately upon release (yes, I was a paying beta tester) but would never do it again.

I am also looking forward for new Fenix 6 series but I will put it on hold for a year or maybe more. Remember, effectively the latest version of the watch is an experimental/concept device while version prior to that one is stable and good one you want to buy. But marketing almost always winsJoyJoy

  • Ah, I know Garmin. I've used Vivosmart, Fenix 3, three Fenix 5X's and their chest straps. The least faulty product was Tempe sensor. It worked exceptionally fine as long as I change the battery. Btw, originally it was the product of  company with a name starting with Dyna. That may be because of it. :D Cadence sensor works good too. :D

I'm not in US. So when it reaches my country, we'll probably have learned most of its hardware faults and bugs. :D And if  don't like it at all, I can always return it before selling my F5X. :)

  • For me to upgrade it would have to have a significant improvement on GPS - using dual band to take better advantage of Galileo or whatever would be required to improve things. Faster processor - maps just chug on the 5x. Larger display - easy to see the things! Pay, Music and cellular connectivity. Better battery would be nice but not essential. If we hit most of those I'll look else I'll wait for the 7..

  • Main feature which I expect from F6X and which will be decision-maker for me to consider buying it will be solar charging efficacy.

The thing is, I don't like thinking about having my charging cable with me all the time or buying another one/two and "planting it around" just in case. If I forgot my cable when on business trip or when generally going outdoors I would like the option to charge the watch at least partially via solar, and that means charging it for a hour at max to take a GPS position and draw it on a map screen for a couple of minutes (e.g. Casio RANGEMAN GPR-B1000 GPS watch has this but it is some other type of a beast). This could be a life saver in some circumstances. Solar panel should charge the watch efficiently in artifical light also (e.g. hotel room or office).

The other feature I find useful would be "no disturb mode" with adjustable timeout. E.g. one goes to cinema/theater/meeting and immediately sets the no disturb timeout to duration of the event and later watch just expires the timer to normal (i.e. "disturb") mode. Many many times I forgot to disable "do not disturb" mode and missed important phone calls/messages.
