We continue to investigate this issue, but do not have a solution. As a temporary workaround, the watch will update distance if you are able to sync with Garmin Connect Mobile, Garmin Express, or plug…
Everyone, we are sorry for the delay but I'm happy to report that in the current 14.73 beta software has a fix for the Zero Distance Issue.
Feel free to install the beta software and report in the…
I now have a 5x Plus so I no longer have this issue. However, syncing my 5x with Garmin Connect mobile did not work, nor did plugging it into a power source. The only workaround that did work was plugging…
This seems to confirm previous reports we've had on this and other threads:
1. Fenix 5x Plus used to have this bug during beta phase, but it was fixed before release version. Somehow the fix isn't…
And I’m telling you it’s the maps. I had completely uninstalled the “updated” Cycle maps (about a month ago or so), that also included some DEM Mapping. The new file size is very big, so I got rid of it. I tried the Navigation and I got the “0” error. On a hunch, I reinstalled the Cycle/DEM Maps and it then worked (hence the video I posted).
Also, I reported this as a problem well over a year ago with the Fenix 5, Tactix Charlie, Fenix 5+ series watches. If you chose a POI and you scroll down to “Review”, it’s supposed give the company name and information. On the previously mentioned models, it does not:
On the Descent Mk1, it does:
Now, if you install the City Navigator Map (USA) on the previously mentioned models, it works. I’ve done A LOT of testing and this is what I’ve determined to be the issue...Maps.
Remember that changing maps via USB is one of the things that appears to temporarily fix the problem.
Every other time I have tried to see if the new firmware works I have installed the new firmware, the formatted the storage, then performed a master reset, then installed the latest maps from Express. After a couple of days the issue was there. I also try as mentioned with the original maps just in case.
Whenever I do that either with 11.xx the issue doesn't appear even if I stay months with it.
I cannot try with City Navigator because I don't have a recent one. But I did hear someone else mention it was working for them with his custom .imgs. I have not heard of it working with the standard maps, though.
javispedro i think so too. since 11, i guess something is happening, that is locking a file, which is required for navigation. when connection the watch via cable, and USB-Massstorage mode is activated the locking is gone, and it works again until i reboot the watch.
I can confirm it is not problem with maps but with software. On 11 tbt navigation is ok, also after restart, and on 13.51 tbt always 0 after restart. I use the latest free Freizeitkarte maps (https://www.freizeitkarte-osm.de/garmin/de/regionen.html https://www.freizeitkarte-osm.de/garmin/de/weitere-laender.html )
After upgrading to 11.56, and restarting tbt remained ok...
Fenix 5x, software: 11.56 beta
gps: 2.5
display 3.0
wifi: 2.4
ciq: 3.01
ble/ant/sns:6.80
whr: 20.03.31
Add me to the list that has 0 ft (distance) turn by turn in navigation problem. I sync my Fenix 5X via Garmin Express to latest software and latest maps, I did a reset to default on the watch, nothing would fix the problem. I was on vacation and was going to depend on the watch for navigation, but the navigation fell flat on its face. You can imagine my frustration trying to get it to work.
Is there a fix for this issue?
Currently there is no solutions, only helps to install softwer 11.00..., and report problem to Garmin support ....
It is strange, I tested it over the weekend on my 5x, have 14.10 and tested with custom maps as well as with Garmin Cycle map 2019.10 and it worked OK, no issues. What I do wrong?
I am also not experiencing battery drain on this version, vice versa, it looks battery life is even better than before.
so "only" ;-) 2 of 3 have this problem.
it only comes when you restart your watch. (power off, power on) then choose a point on the map or an POI or a saved location to navigate.
Yeah well I don't know either. I used to think it was due to being an APAC device but Garmin replacements have the same problem too.
Today I did the drill again. Erase, upgrade, erase, master reset, reinstall all maps. I even reinstalled the Cycle maps twice. The issue was there on the next reboot. By now I can reproduce it like clockwork.
The only other explanation I can think of, if it's not the device, is whether Garmin Express is actually offering the _wrong_ maps to the affected users, which is what'd cause the problem.
Imagine for some reason you need the 2019.10 cycle map to be able to route with > 11.0 . Now remember that Garmin Express offers each user a different set of maps, even for the same device (e.g. my device was APAC, but I am currently in France, so I am offered the EU maps). What if Garmin Express is oferring me the _wrong maps_? This would "explain" why the original maps don't work with > 11.x (it may require 2019.10 maps), but also why it doesn't work no matter how many times I reinstall the cycle maps (I get the wrong/old maps).
I have seen many stupid things with Garmin Express, I could believe that. For example, when I was reinstalling everything again this weekend, I noticed Garmin Express _though_ I already had the cycle maps installed -- even though the flash memory was COMPLETELY EMPTY: no Garmin folder and 100% disk free. I actually had to go and click the "reinstall" button to get it to download the cycle maps.
(And yes, I still got the 0 distance bug. Next reinstall, I will try without the cycle maps at all...).
BTW Garmin had some guys announcing Fenix 6 release a few kilometers from my house. I was really considering crashing the party....
