Steps during walking activity not showing up in Connect

The last two walking activities i have done, the steps did not show up in Connect IQ. In one case it displayed Steps IQ and "0". and in the other case in the place where Steps usually show up (under calories in the "stats" display) it is blank, does not say "Steps IQ" even. In all previous walks, the step count does display there, labeled as "Steps IQ". Any thoughts on what i can do about this? Do others always see steps for walking? Thanks.

Did you think about using a developer field for the steps in Garmin Connect? Here is explained by the example of the Namaste app how to use developer fields:

    Good Morning,

adrm2016b : Thanks for information and links.
No - I'm not using a foot pod. I'm not a "professional" runner/walker, doing it just for fun and for loosing some weight (lost 12kg in past 3 months). I now have an expensive fenix, and I really don't want to buy another expensive device, because professional fenix doesn't what it should... ;)
And Yes - I wanted to use a data field for calculation [=ActivitySteps*Xsteplength}. But I thought, there should be already an existing data field, as IMHO my wish is not so unusual, isn't it? Creating an own developer field would be interesting... I will study your mentioned links a.s.a.p.

I m using it for training walking meditation. I always wear a footpot, since it it the most accurate. But I can only use it as display with the android application a training tracker from the google play store, which is very accurate and counts steps. A stryd is not urgently necessary. A good calibrated GARMIN foot pod works as well. In my experience, it gives you more satisfaction when you walk. When you are doing it the hole day, and when you are aware of every step, a foot pod is better. For instance when you are wearing some bags, when you put your heands in you pockets when it is cold, etc.

I m also unhappy with the situation, that GARMIN CONNECT does not support a field "number of steps during an activity". I did check through the steps field in the GARMIN QIC store, but I could not find a single one which can upload it to GARMIN CONNECT. There I could also not find a single one which supports foot pod. So I found the article with the Namaste App with a the developer field in the Garmin Developer Blog. It was the only solution I could find which I could imagine that it would work to get the steps up to Garmin connect.

So, as we have similar interests, I think we should keep in touch - in case someone has a solution earlier... But I'm not sure, when I have the posibility to test.
I think, AppBuilder also seems to be an intersting way, but I didn't have success up to now.
BTW: Where do you come from? I'm from Germany. Explaining in English, sometimes is not easy.

Why doesn't Steps to Fit work for you? It's perfect for me.

No doubt, that IQ Data Field "Steps to FIT" works fine - also for me. Thanks to programmer!
I think, he means, that there is no "standard Garmin possibility" to show activity steps automatically in GC, though obviously activity steps are counted and saved by default in the background.

I think, most users don't want to download special apps or data fields (even don't know how it works) or want to do programming to see what they want...
I'm also only interested in that because I can't find what I'd like to have...
    Am I rigth - or am I right? :D
  • Yes, steps used to show, but not for all activity types. Walking and hiking, but not for run if I recall. From 2016:

    - How did you export all cumulated data into (is it Excel?)?

    - And here's visible the same problem with distance (other threads), that it's not possible to measure distances (without GPS) correctly with Garmin: line 1: 1570/3688=0,42 step length. (Or do you have Inch/Miles? Then it's possible.)
    But my setting is m/km
Or does probably the Garmin Firmware has a bug to show Distance within activities (without GPS) always in Inch?
I have the standard setting Kilometers - but my steplength also shows 0,43 (should be 70-80cm)...
Calculation of normal 24h steps is OK (steps*75cm) with personal user setting 0,75m - but my Distances without GPS are much too small - only about half as extepted. (Distances WITH GPS is not the problem, as they are not calculated by steps*steplength, but from GPS)

Because it is not a field which you can process further and calculate wiith it in Garmin Connect. Yes, they had it in 2016 in Garmin Connect for certrain activity types. Then they removed it. There was an Old mens biking plugin in Sports Tracks which could process step data. But it is not avaiilable anymore either. So there is no option left to process step data, with or without foot pod, and I miss it.

Nope, that's just how you could see it on the GC website back then. You could select what columns, move them around, etc. It's a screen shot from GC.
