Steps during walking activity not showing up in Connect

The last two walking activities i have done, the steps did not show up in Connect IQ. In one case it displayed Steps IQ and "0". and in the other case in the place where Steps usually show up (under calories in the "stats" display) it is blank, does not say "Steps IQ" even. In all previous walks, the step count does display there, labeled as "Steps IQ". Any thoughts on what i can do about this? Do others always see steps for walking? Thanks.

The problem was that when I would end the activity, the save activity display would replace the data fields so I had no way to see the steps info again. Therefore, I needed to make sure I noted the steps prior to stopping my activity..

Another way to solve this problem is to use the protocoll "indoor walking" which runs on the vivoactive HR. When you stop the indoor walking activity, you can see in the last activity widget distance, time and number of steps during an activity. This is very helpful. But I miss a column with number of steps during an activity in Garmin Connect.

I have it on my Vivoactive HR and also on my Vivoactive 3 (german: Schritte). Did you choose the "last activity widget" to be displayed?ciq.forums.garmin.com/.../1443927.jpg

With Steps to Fit, the number of steps for the activity appears in Connect in the lower left side of the Activity detail display.

When I install the IQ Data Field "Steps to Fit", I can also see lap steps in the lap tab in Garmin Connect. I think they changed this recently. But this is no reason not to bring back the number of steps during an activity to garmin connect.

As explained above, "Steps to FIT" works good - but nevertheless I also can't understand, why Garmin had removed this feature. I didn't know this before, as I bought my 5S beginning of 12/2018.

But - however - activity steps still must be stored somewhere (also without Steps to FIT), though it isn't shown in Garmin Connect, because I definitively was able to see the single steps after having importet Garmin data in my YAZIO Android app. There I can see steps and calories separated for each activity AND additionally 24h steps data (of cause NOT including activity steps).
This is definitively, what I'd expect also in GC!

So, why should everyone install other apps or IQ data fileds (that probably train battery additionally), though data are included automatically???
I can't explain... And unfortunately Garmin support didn't respond to my mail up to now...

I also tested InWalk (still have it on watch 5S) and also had contact to programmer. It's a nice app, that shows everything during walking - but as you said right, unfortunately doesn't store the steps in Garmin Connect. And as it's a programmed app, it's not possible to modify personally with "Steps to fit".
That's why IMHO it's better to create a personal activity with "steps to fit" and other data fields you want.

Yes, number of steps are stored in the fit file:

    https://forums.garmin.com/forum/into-sports/running/1406175-are-the-number-of-steps-during-an-activity-stored-in-the-fit-file

But why does Garmin Connect not use it as field which can be processed, as for instance swim strokes?

adrm2016b - Do you have experinces with AppBuilder 5?

As the distance without GPS (calculated automatically with steplength in GPS walks) isn't correct enough to receive good values for measuring, my idea was to have another IQ Data Field, which is calculating/showing the distance from my personal settings.
AppBuilder 5 seems to be what I need, but unfortunately I don't know how to set correctly...

Is it probably possible to modify my activity "MeasuringNoGPS" as following:
    1. insert IQ Data Field "Steps to FIT" (--> is showing ActivitySteps and is writing into FIT-File to show ActivitySteps in Garmin Connect) --> This works - OK
    2. insert IQ Data Field "AppBuilder 5" (--> is showing personal AppDistance [="Steps to FIT" * 0,75] and is writing into FIT-File to show measurement in Garmin Connect) --> HOW???

Unfortunately, I don't know, how to set the option in AppBuilder, as I don't know the correct name of data field "Steps to FIT" (probably it's only possible to write, not to make a selection)
Do you know, which data-filed-name I have to insert to calculate the Distance [=ActivitySteps*0,75]?

Pardon for Newbie-Question, in case this is too simple ;)

Are you certain it was removed? I've been counting steps and doing activities for many years and have never seen steps associated with an activity appearing anywhere.in Connect or Mobile Connect.

    No... I'm not.
But this was written by adrm2016b , was discussed in other linked Theme, and also programmer of App InWalk wrote the same.

Personally, I don't know - but I really don't understand, why this isn't shown in Garmin Connect, though is is definitively stored in FIT-file - and is exported to YAZIO.
    In YAZIO I can see:
    1. quantity and calories of normal 24h steps WITHOUT ActivitySteps
    2. ActivitySteps and ActivityCalories separated for each done activity

No, I don t have any experience with AppBuilder 5. But I m an enthusiastic step counter as well. And here my question to you as an enthusiastic programmer:

When you care about accuracy: with "steps to fit" for instance you only get data from the watch internal accelerometer:

    https://forums.garmin.com/forum/into...ot-count-steps

But foot pods are more accurate than GPS or the watch internal accelerometer. For a comparison see here:

    http://fellrnr.com/wiki/Stryd

When you are looking for an accurate device for step counting, why not to take the stryd pod for it?
