Curious about trying out the beta firmware for my F5.

I've been using stock firmware on my F5 since May. I assume installing beta firmware will clear my watch. Will this always be the case? Will I need to set it up after installing a new beta release?

I guess what I'm really asking, would it be a good idea to install this on my primary (and only) device?
  • Beta Firmwares are like normal ones as long as the release numbers only counting upwards.
You can install and use it like release versions.

Normally, they are very reliable. I only have one Fenix 5 I where the whole day and am on the beta path.
If your or someone else live depends on it, you shouldn't do it ;-)

All seems to be working including connecting to Garmin Explore, but my floor counter is a little more than double of what it should be. I took a simple 0.9mile hike, with an elevation gain of 134.5ft per the summary of the hike, and would up with 23 floors. It should be closer to 12-13 floors at the most.

I do notice the elevation data looks a little more "noisy" than it used to, but also is no longer smoothed off during abrupt elevation changes like coming over the crest of a hill, so it appears the filtering has changed, and this is a positive thing IMHO, but it seems to have broken the floor counter.

I re-started the F5, and still the same results.

I will send over my fit file from this when I get home this evening.
  • *** UPDATE: We have updated the version 11.57 Beta folder to include the new Sensor Hub version 6.24 ***

The beta file available for download still contains Sensor Hub v6.21 dated 9/20/2018 as of this afternoon. Any news on this?

And Strava complained about a 'Bad File Data' error when trying to sync (or manually upload) a swim activity. ??

    -Thomas

  • Same here since 11.57, pool swims not uploading to Strava, and an error trying a manual upload.
5S download link still contains sensor hub 6.21

I updated just the sensor hub, and I am at 2.64, and I can confirm 2.64 is in the zip file provided above.
The double-floors bug is gone, though it is slightly more floor sensitive than before, but actually seems more reasonable. I used to get about 9 floors for 106ft, now I am getting 11-12. A tad high, but I am OK with that. Well within acceptable margin. Sure beats getting 22 for the same height gain with the older sensor hub.

Note for other users, I performed the update when the zip still had the older sensor hub in it. later I came back here and just copied the sensor hub file into the REMOTESW folder and updated again. Then I had 2.64. You may only need to update that one file and try again.
  • Squid, do you see a folder called Sensor_Hub_v624, then? Because I've just downloaded in the last half hour, and I have Sensor_Hub_v621, the file inside is timestamped 20th Sep 2018.
  • just uploaded all the files to fenix5, still on sensor hub v6.21...
  • For me the Fenix 5 link has the v624 folder, the 5S still the old v621.
Tried the Fenix 5 v624 file on my 5S, didn't recognise it
