Broadcast HR to Keiser 3mi. Anyone have this setup?

M3i not 3mi....

Sorry if this is answered somewhere else, but I tried several searches and couldn't find an answer.

I have the Fenix 5x. I have never tried the HR Broadcast before. I just had Hip Replacement surgery and I'm borrowing a Keiser M3i to assist in rehab. All I can find on the Garmin site are the steps to Broadcast HR to other Garmin Products. All I can find here is this... https://forums.garmin.com/forum/into...e-on-treadmill.

The Keiser manual seems to only allow a Polar strap HR to sync with its computer.

Is Garmin proprietary only to Garmin?
Is Keiser proprietary only to Polar?
Is there anyone out there that has a Garmin and Keiser playing nice?

It's really annoying that all these companies claim to be great and friendly.....except to each other.

Thanks for any help.

I can broadcast my HR from my fenix 5X to my Concept 2 rowing machine (different brand) to the display. My brand new Rogue Echo bike that is rather new on the market does not work with my watch, only polar stuff, I dont know why and it is sad.
  • Thanks for the reply, Messner.

I contacted both Garmin and Keiser email support, and asked if they had a list of compatible products from other manufacturers. Still no reply.

Funny how every Bluetooth Headset, speaker, remote control toy, etc, seem to have little to no problem running Bluetooth to iPhone or Android products. Yet most of these "Health" or "Gym Equipment" companies won't work with each other. They must all have some code built in to prohibit compatibility with any product(s) other than their own.

    Beyond Sad.

  • I am using the Kaiser m3i. You need to get a Bluetooth polar heart rate belt (I believe a Suunto one works as well) The belt transmits the data to the m3i head. Then the head can transmit it’s data to iPhone apps - GoInd or Keiser metrics or keiser mseries.
the goind app, paid version, stores data and has some excellent screens if you explore what is available.

I have thought of attaching a cadence sensor to the pedals. I do not know of any way that you can talk to the watch directly. Keiser do publish their developers info on their website. I guess companies don’t see enough users.

No. Garmin uses ANT+ for HR broadcast and can be used with any equipment capable of ANT+ HR reception.

No. Keiser uses bluetooth and should be compatible with any bluetooth HR sensor.

  • tmk2,

Looks like you beat me to the punch. I just found out what you posted below. It would be nice if these companies would try to be a little more clear and less stealthy on compatibility.

Fortunately, I am only borrowing the M3i. I've spent enough on other "Health" products, only to find out they don't play nice. Although you may say Garmin isn't proprietary, many of their products are ANT+. By ONLY broadcasting with ANT+, this corners the consumer into ANT+ products. I went from a Fenix 3 to a 5x for the Wrist HR and Bluetooth. A simple Software tweak would allow for Broadcasting HR in Bluetooth.

And the m3i by receiving only bluetooth corners consumers into bluetooth products. See, it works both ways. I'm not trying to defend garmin here, it would be nice if every product were interoperable with everything else, but as industry history shows, multiple incompatible standards are quite normal and something we have to live with.

Not sure where Bluetooth is cornering consumers?? I have had Bluetooth devices for years. Car Stereo, wireless headphones, wireless speakers, laptops, etc. I never ran into ANT+ until my Fenix 3. Then I had to buy an ANT+ Dongle to track my workouts on my iPhone. I never had an Android product. Are they all ANT+?

The Fenix 5x comes with Bluetooth, so no more dongle for iPhone. Garmin chooses to turn off the HR broadcast capability for Bluetooth. Not as much an incompatible standard. It's more of an ON or OFF switch. ON for iPhone, OFF for HR Broadcast.

All those devices use regular bluetooth while fitness devices - including the m3i - utilise bluetooth LE, also called bluetooth smart, which has actually very little in common with regular bluetooth (and is not interconnectable with it), except the name, for the confusion of users.

ANT+ is quite old. Older in fact than Bluetooth LE. It's been developed especially for low-power health/fitness applications.

No. But neither are all Bluetooth LE.

Appreciate the answers to all the nuances of Bluetooth. I'm starting to get passed up by all the changes.

.....My Licorice Pizzas all still play on any turntable world wide (as long as its not for 45's only. Ha!). Those were the days.
  • Old post but may help others- with fenix 5 YOURE better off just getting all your bike stats into Garmin connect rather than just getting your watch to send hr to the bike (it uses an old analogue protocol called Gymlink and mainly only available on Polar hr sensors h7 and h10 etc).

I make alternative Keiser converters - K2pi+ (ant) with ant - converts Keiser M3i signal to a more compatible Bluetooth and ant signal that works with Garmin receivers and Multisport watches- send power and cadence - so provides training load within Garmin connect app for recording all your rides.
