first run GPS inaccurate

I did my first run today with the fenix 5x.
Very sad to see that the gps was very inaccurate. the run was like 10% off with the same run done with my old watch (tomtom spark).
The strange thing was that it recorded 10% less distance so my pace was 10% lower then in reallity.

In strava i could fix the distance so the run got fixed.

is this normal?
I mean this watch is like 500 dollar more expensive then the tomtom.

edit:

this is an example:

the red line is what the garmin recorded and the purple line is what the fenix recorded.
I never experienced this with my old watch.

could record one second help?
  • What I don't understand is that on 95% of the reviews is being said that it's an good watch for running.
but with this results it can't even be taken serious.

any idea what smartwatch has good gps results?

I've read good things about the Suunto Spartan Ultra, so much so that I bought one, however tbh with you I don't like it, it's "clunkier" than the Garmin and I am probably going to sell the Spartan Ultra in the next couple of weeks, don't get me wrong there are a couple of nice features with the watch (I really like the touch screen) but the move from Moves Count to the Suunto App hasn't appeared to be as smooth as they would like and it's no where near as good as Garmin Connect imho.

    Thanks for honesty.
I saw the suunto Spartan sport baro but it lacks some features.
the fact is I like the 5x but I can't live with this GPS problems.
Unfortunately the TomTom isn't supported by the manufacturer so I need to buy an new watch.

    @lutherkingmartin
