I noticed that over the past few days my training status has stopped recording. I have not changes my training but training status went from resting to no status. The watch is still recording intensity minutes and training effect but this does not appear to be shifting over to training status. I have also noticed that there is a discrepancy between calories burnt during activity and the active calories recorded throughout the day.
why the hell wouldn't a trail run generate a vo2max assessment !? this explains why mine may have stopped as all i have been doing for the last few weeks has been trails....

That could explain it, yes. Originally, trail runs did generate VO2max values, but the watch doesn't take account of how much hillier trail runs tend to be, never mind the effect of the different conditions underfoot, so the values came out way lower than for flatter road runs. A lot of users complained that their VO2max values were being messed up by this, and Garmin eventually switched off VO2max measurements for runs recorded as trail runs.
+1 for this issue on the Fenix 5 with software v9.20... Training Status, Lactate threshold, training effect, and VO2 all stopped updating / working a couple of weeks ago.
