Downgraded to 8.00 but my settings function doesn't work anymore (long press on menu).

That’s really strange… Mine 5x working perfectly, as they were before 9.2…
So, for now you are not able to pass to Settings menu at all? But before with 8.0 and 9.2 it was working?
It’s looks like downgrading was done not correctly.
I think, first of all, make normal update to 9.2 through Garmin Express (before update, charge device to 100% plus more 30 min). After update – make device recovery to factory settings. It should reduce battery drain, but not fix.

If, after that you will decide to downgrade for 8.0, you have, first of all clearly understand every step you are making. Next, need to download next beta after off. 8.00 for your device (pay attention for region, my 5x was bought at Europe, posted file for this region). Compare versions of all files in beta folder with versions in your device (means: fw, GPS, Wi-Fi, etc.). After follow the same way, how you installing beta fw, but as main (System) use file from folder System_Backdate_v800 instead of System_v854.

Just download first beta after 8.0, means 8.54. Inside folder "System_Backdate_v800" you will found requested file.
If we are talking about Phenix 5x, here is the link:
    https://www.dropbox.com/s/wshfiaa912...4Beta.zip?dl=0

Yap, with 9.53 beta they made GPS from 4.4 to 2.2, god knows why.

    Forget to tall.
Do not forget to switch off auto update on your device, before first synchronization.
Also, remove Garmin Express from your PS, before connecting your device. Because, Garmin Express does not care, that auto update is of… It will update it anyhow.

Can you please do a step by step tutorial to do this for dumb people like me?
    THANKS
  • As I understood, you can not get into settings menu by long press of menu button. If it’s still not working, means, that previous playing with downgrade passed wrong and we have to fix it first.
First of all, try to make soft reset of device: press and hold “light” button until device will completely off, wait for a few minutes ant switch it on again. If you have installed some watch faces from market, they can be a reason of delays with device response. Remove all o them. If it will not fix (most probably not), connect your device to PC and make update through Garmin Express to fw 9.2. Disconnect device, reboot it. Proceed to settings menu, system and select “Restore Defaults”. It should help for sure.

Now, to downgrade device to 8.0. First of all, you have to find and download next beta fw after 8.0 for your device. Link to zip which I posted a bow is suitable for European market device, it will definitely not work with Asian market device, regarding USA marked, not sure… Better to check.
    Let’s start to downgrade:
    • Charge your device battery to 100%.
    • Completely remove, from your PC, Garmin Express. Because this program, without your permission, will automatically upgrade device to last fw.
    • Unzip archive “fenix5X_854Beta” on your PC.
    • Connect your device to PC as memory stick.
    • Copy file “GUPDATE.gcd” from folder “System_Backdate_v800” to your device to “\GARMIN” folder.
    • Copy “GUPDATE.GCD” from folder “GPS_v430” to your device to “\GARMIN\REMOTESW” folder.
    • Safely disconnect your device from PC. It will offer to make update to 8.0, proceed up to moment, when it will offer to synchronize your device with mobile phone, select – later. Proceed through remain initial settings.
    • Go to setting menu, system, software update. There will be one more update for GPS. Install it. Reboot device after installation.
    • Proceed again to setting menu, system, software update and switch of auto update.
    That’s all.
But to be completely sure, I’ve made one more restore to factory settings after that. (settings menu, system and select “Restore Defaults”).

@Dmytryi Yes, that's what I did, I used zip file I found on someone FTP server, I have North American version, maybe firmware I used made for different region. Not sure where to get NA firmware. Thank you for you help.
  • As I know, the difference only with east market. In did, I know some cases, when people to save money, bought devices from China. After installation of European fw got dead device…
Really, I’m very doubt, that for US and European fw has any difference.

It also could be due to previous actions with device. Some remains after beta, or 9.2…
I’m almost sure, that it’s not a point of fw… But 100% will not beat.

After recovery to original 9.2 and restore to factory settings all buttons working?
  • I had a 3rd party watch face, once I got rid of that it went back to near normal drain rate.
