Intensity Minutes Info

So after two weeks of using the watch I'm starting to like it more each day. Gotten use to not having a touchscreen, although I do find myself pushing more buttons than I probably need because I forget what they do..... but so far, it seems to be giving me some accurate info when compared to steps on my iphone, and heart rate on my BP Monitor.
Sleep stats is still a bit off as it seems to think I'm asleep when I'm sat down watching a movie in an evening.... 10.5 hours sleep? I wish!!! LOL

So, the only thing I don't really like about the watch is the Intensity Minutes Limitation.
By this I mean you have to set a weekly goal.
Steps and Floors Climbed is a daily goal, why aren't the intensity minutes??
Not only that, it gives you a running total for the week, I want to see that days results.

As mentioned in another thread, my first bike ride out showed 260 Vigorous Minutes (x2) and 36 Moderate Minutes. Then each day it just added to those numbers - so I don't know how much was achieved on each subsequent ride. Am I missing something here? Do I need to be delving through any menus on the App to find this?
Any help would be great.

I still don't quite get the HR Zones (from my first post last week), but I have just used the start off with 220 and deduct age method.... I'm sure I'll get there eventually!

That display above is on that widget shows Vigourous and Total so you do have to do a little math to get the moderate ;-) You can also long press up on that widget and change the background to black or white. The writing isn't the easiest to read (black on red!) but if my 49 year old eyes can do it in daylight it can;t be too bad ;-)

IIRC Orange means you havent hit your weekly goal with those minutes, and purple means you have..... may be the other way round - cant remember off top of my head ;-)

Yeah - Orange means on that day you hit your weekly goal!

Installed that - and you're right - its not the easiest to read, but once I stick my glasses on I'm there. :o
And yes, Orange is when you have passed your goal - so guessing the Blue/Purple will go Orange once I have reached it - we will see.

Having only worn the watch since Wednesday morning this week, the two days (Wednesday & Thursday) in the widget is bang on target with the Watch/App and its nice to see each days Vigouous.

I really think the Garmin software needs looking at as its not what I would call consistent.
By this I mean on the Watch in the Stock "My Day" widget, it shows the weeks exercise. So its not actually My Day,
Think I might remove this one and use the other.

Still don't like the fact it doubles the vigorous - my 30 minutes on the elliptical last night is actually showing 50 minutes because 20 of them were vigorous.
I guess it means I can exercise 3 times a week and reach the recommended minimum.... :)

Author has already added my suggestion re text colours!

    Thats impressive service!!
How do we change font colours?

Downloading the latest widget gets the new colours. They're not changeable but the ones chosen now are very legible

The doubling of the vigourous is the definition of intensity minutes - click the help on the view and it gives you the full definition of how Intensity minutes are calculated.

[h=1]Understanding How the Intensity Minutes Feature Works[/h]
150 minutes is the minimum goal set for weekly Intensity Minutes credit which represents how many minutes of moderate exercise that is recommended by health organizations such as the American Heart Association.

Garmin devices that have the Intensity Minutes feature can provide credit a few different ways. One way is to analyze the number of steps per minute you are taking. For example once a brisk walk or running is detected you can earn Intensity Minutes credit. Another way is with metrics derived from comparing your current heart rate versus your average resting heart rate (supported on devices with wrist-based heart rate).

In order to earn Intensity Minutes credit, you must reach or exceed 10 consecutive minutes where either your step count rate or heart rate is elevated above the threshold that is considered moderate intensity. Performing a more vigorous activity resulting in a high heart rate can double your credit minutes allowing you to meet your weekly goal faster.

You can also earn Intensity Minutes credit by completing a number of different exercises in order to meet your weekly goal however it is suggested that anything outside of brisk walking or running such as cycling, weightlifting, or various calisthenics be recorded using the activity recording feature on the device. This ensures the heart rate is being monitored consistently and can come in handy if you want to upload your workout and view your results in Garmin Connect.

Swimming activities with or without heart rate are not designed to give Intensity Minute credit.

It only shows the week for IM, for steps etc its daily..

My Day Advanced is good in that it enables you to get rid of a bunch of widgets, but the one above is the only one I've found that gives you a daily IM count - I guess its because, by definition, IM are tracked on a weekly basis* and TBH are not such a stringently scientific measure of fitness as some of the others.

Uninstalled and re-installed - I now have the new white on red...:) - still seeing too many written in Black on the Blue - must exercise harder!! Ha
Any ideas what the + & - are that appear next to some of the lines? If you're not sure I'll ask the dev.
Each screen has 1 + and 1 - except for floors which has lots of -

Cheers for that "Understanding How the Intensity Minutes Feature Works" - its all starting to make sense now.... and now I know that to get the double minutes it has to be 10 minutes solid above moderate. Cycling has just become more fun.
