Please note, the beta updates released on these forums are not suitable for APAC region devices.
  • APAC watches use different firmware. That said if you bought in the US, chances are good you got a US watch (did it come with the US map?).

  • It came with US maps, now it has Aussie maps. Not sure what would be different in the f/w.
  • Bought mine in Melbourne. It’s apparently not an APAC version because it works with this and previous “not far APAC firmware “. My more or less educated guess is that Garmin means non-English, non “European/US/Latin” script, so AU and NZ aren’t APAC. This may or may not be the case. If it is, it demonstrates a not unusual ethnocentric world view from Corporate US.
  • Why are the betas not suitable for APAC? I purchased my watch in the US, but I am now in Australia.

They probably have some different hardware inside to accommodate their language files and fonts. Apart from betas, they get the stable firmwares late too.

Garmin, are you gonna update this firmware anytime soon or due with have to suffer it for years and years.

Thanks in advance if you responde, which I dont think you will.
  • Get use to it.They don't listen and they will update the watch slower and slower from now on.It all start with a few weeks back.I think they are busy with another watch that they want to release so those who buyed fenix5 series we are out of the boat. This is something normal for Garmin!Shame on them...

So true Dexter, guess that's why you are a Master. I've been a long time quite observer and finally bought a 5x late last year. Hands down this has become the worst purchase I've ever made.
I don't say that lightly. I do my homework, read reviews, manuals, and don't mind paying for the "better" product.

As I've said before, this is a terrible product given it is 5th generation, 1 yr after release, and version 8+ of software. By now a flag ship product at this price point should not be producing more defects then fixes, and the response cadence of Garmin is embarrassing. Before the fanboys and girls start roasting me. I'm happy if you are getting what you want from yours. I along with many others in these forum are not. (Basic HR off by 20-60 beats per min during cardio or just stops tracking)

I'm sure your guess is accurate. With the release of the Charlie and Descent and probably a Fenix ? in the pipeline, we better get used to things getting worse.

I work in software and we typically turn out weekly releases on multiple products. I see similar progress when I look at my iphone and vendors are able to push updates every 2 weeks or so. Those vendors also seem to be fixing things in a timely manner AND delivering relatively stable releases.

On the upside I've helped sell a lot of fitbit, Samsung, and Polar. I don't even bother to tell my story anymore, I just send people to the Garmin forums and tell them read before you buy.
  • I recently made 2 changes to my watch and the battery life has been pretty poor since. 1. i updated to this beta, 2. i installed a new watch face.

Is anyone else seeing poor battery life (>10%/day in watch mode) out of this beta?
  • Yes, I am seeing poor battery life with this beta, far more than 10% per day. I'm on 88% and was fully charged at 11pm last night, so 12% in 19 hours. Keep thinking I should do a hard reset but I hate the loss of setup and stats this causes.
  • Thanks, glad to know i'm not the only one. I can live with it for now.
