Fenix 5X - 8.54 Public Beta

Hello Fenix 5X users,

We have new beta software ready for your upcoming adventures!

Note: Please allow for the updates to propagate across all servers. There is no need to post that the link does not work. It will after a bit of patience.

8.54 Change Log Notes:
  • Added the Kayak app.
  • Added support for Connect IQ SDK v2.4.2.
  • Added the ability to save Stopwatch recording as an activity. Go to the Stopwatch control, and start the timer. Stop the timer, and select Done. You can then save your activity, which will appear in your History.
  • Enabled the Auto Set setting for Strength activities. To access this setting, go to your Strength Settings, and select Auto Set. When enabled, sets automatically advance during free Strength activities.
  • Enabled the Edit Weight setting for Strength and Cardio activities. To access this setting, go to your Strength or Cardio settings, and select Edit Weight. This setting will control whether or not you can edit the weight when editing sets.)
  • Fixed an issue causing an incorrect time to be displayed.
  • Fixed an issue preventing time zones with Arabic characters from being displayed in the Time Zone widget.
  • Fixed a potential crash when using Group LiveTrack.
  • Fixed an issue resulting in high cadence and calorie values when using some power meters.
  • Fixed an issue preventing Rep Counting activities from advancing correctly when the Lap key is disabled.
  • Fixed a potential issue causing the 'Wheel Size Computed' notification to appear frequently.
  • Fixed an issue causing the Elevation graph to not update frequently.
  • Fixed an issue causing some workout prompts from a Training Calendar to be repeated after completing the workout.
  • Fixed an issue where the grade data field was displaying incorrect data.
  • Fixed an issue where GPX files with a certain data format could not be parsed by the device and would display a blank map.
  • Fixed an issue with calendars details page where the title and location information were not displaying properly.

    This is what happend with fenix3hr.Same life will have fenix5x also, even if this model it have only a few months from when was released.So yeah, garmin it's one of the worst company when it comes to the bugs.A lot of complaints but garmin does not care and the proof is here : no updates for a lot of time.


    Garmin is trash. And the last version 8.0 was garbage, last stable release was months ago. Please garmin buy my watch back.

    Pretty much says it all right there. The way they support a current release, flagship product is embarrassing to them. I fear what I will be stuck with as they start to focus on what’s next.

    Spread the word. It’s the only way to create incentive for them to change.
  • I think i'll put on ebay mine till this week, too many bug, lack of support (never received a feedback from beta since a month ago), i'll keep only Garmin Swim and i'll go to Spartan Ultra that i owned and even if it has less functions, it works almost flawless for al least basic functions (ABC). I don't think i'll buy Garmin again and i think i will not advice anyone to buy this kind of devices from Garmin.

    Please guy, can you tell me how is the spartan for bike, I only do Racquetball and Zwift, will it work for those 2?

    I've faced with Bluetooth synchronization after Beta update.

    Fenix 5X was connected, active, F5X was connected to Connect Mobile. When I tried to sync. - I waited for 1-2 mins and got a sync error every time.

    I've tried paired again F5X and phone (it was Samsung S7 Edge), reboot F5x, reboot phone - nothing helps me.
    Error the same.
    It started after Beta update. 8.54.

    And one more bad thing - F5x shows me - Connected - but SMS, notification from the phone does not show me.

    Any ideas how to help this?

    More interesting fact - I can see on the main Dashboard of Garmin Connect - my current Pulse (it's dynamically changing), Goals - but Sync. doesn't operate correctly.

    After 1-2 mins synchronization, it was stopped, but Pulse value was still working. It's very strange. Messages from phone were not accepted.

    I had the same exactly bug for months with my previous Samsung S8, now works correctly with S9+ but maybe it can start again because even with S8 worked flawless for days and suddenly stopped to work... Also notifications didn't work correctly... Here you are another bug.... I'm tired of all these bugs, when i owned Suunto Spartan Ultra, all stuff worked good... The only thing that i will miss will be tempe sensor POINT.
  • Some of you guys clearly have had a bad experience with the Fenix. That doesn't exactly match my experience, but I understand your frustration. I suspect you'll see a firmware drop very soon based on the products that were announced today as well as the Connect IQ 3.0 release. I believe the developer summit runs through tomorrow, so the actual firmware developers are probably a bit busy this week as i'd expect they are participating in the summit.

    They have no excuse, you can't leave your customers for a month with this crap firmware! We are talking about a 750€ watch!
