F5x and FR645 Music

When I first got my F5x I was wondering why there was no integrated mp3-player. Why should I take my mobile with me if I could easily connect my bt-headphones to the watch and do have ~5-6GB of free memory for music storage?

Well, I tried to discuss that with garmin but never got an answer.

So imagine how suprised I have been, when I just got the news that the 645 Music is released in Germany. And guess what it's USP is... right, integrated MP3.

Fun Question: Will Garmin update the 5x or do they expect us to buy the 6/5+ one day got get a function that should have been aviable from the first day on?
  • I believe the FR645 has regular Bluetooth for music - not Bluetooth LE. The F5X lacks this, so it will never be retrofitted with music capability.

I really hope Garmin will restrict the useless ipod-like functionality to single product(line). Garmin Fenix is a sports watch, not a music player gadget.

    My question has always been...

Why in the world would person NOT want to have their phone with them on a workout?

If an emergency happened, wouldn't you want your phone?

They make waist bands that are stretchy and hold a phone so you can't even feel you have it.

Marketing hype if you ask me.
  • The only time I take my phone with me is if I'm expecting a call (rare, as I tend to go out at sunrise). My mp3 player on the other hand is a must (a small one I can clip to my watch band so it's easy to access). I have a Road ID if something happens, and there are always people around.

    The new option sounds cool!

    Agree with this.
I always bring my phone with me anyway, in case a call has to be made or receive in an emergency.

Would not use music playing from the watch as it would drain the battery needlessly.

One reason I can think of to have bluetooth headphones paired with the watch is if it could speak guidance through a workout instead of buzzing and having to look at the screen.

    Amen.

I always run with my phone. Mainly for emergencies and live tracking. If my wife needs to call me for an emergency or if I need to call 911 for someone else. I actually had to do that for an elderly individual that flipped over her handlebars. Ever since then I either carry my phone in a spibelt or spydergrip.
