Fenix 5X - 6.83 Beta Release

Hello Fenix 5X users,

We have new beta software ready for your upcoming adventures!

The system, BLE/ANT/SNS, Display, and WiFi (if applicable) software have been updated in this beta. Please read the 'notes' and 'installation instructions' in the 'Updates and Downloads' page found in the link below.

Note: Please allow for the updates to propagate across all servers. There is no need to post that the link does not work. It will after a bit of patience.

6.83 Change Log Notes:

Improved Training Status and Training Load now updated with heart rate data that is stored on an HRM-Tri or HRM-swim and sent to the watch.
Improved Compass steadiness when still and responsiveness when moving.
Fixed an issue causing the backlight to remain on while on the charging page.
Fixed issue causing the Start/Stop and Lap keys to only clear notifications when they are displayed instead of also performing their general function (for example, starting the timer and recording a lap).
Fixed an issue preventing Work from being displayed on Varia Vision.
Fixed an issue preventing Lap HR % Max from being displayed on Varia Vision.
Fixed an issue causing the Best Power personal record to be displayed incorrectly.
Fixed an issue causing Wi-Fi Networks to be displayed in Garmin Connect Mobile for devices without Wi-Fi.
Added support for Connect IQ SDK 2.4.1.

I found that the 6.83 beta has increased the announced speed during a Hike activity by approximately 80% over the true speed. It mow tells me that from one hike in version 6.0 I averaged 3.2 to 3.6 mph, but the next day in version 6.83 on the same exact hike, I am averaging 5.8 to 6.2 mph.

has it defaulted to KMH?

mine did and when set back to MPH it was fine (until I did a sync and then it goes back to KPH) :(

When i make a call in my car the bleutooth disconnects en gets back when i am done with the call
is this normal ???

Also happens in FW6.00. Didn't happen before that

Hello! quick question. I have just installed this beta firmware, but when I go into "settings" and "about" - I still see 6.00 (787122c). should I be seeing 6.83? I don't find the new features listed in the release notes so I suspect it was not installed. (I have the 5X APAC model)

Try clearing cache, clearing data, uninstalling GCM and then rebooting the phone. Install GCM again, pair and log in to Garmin. SOME have reported this solved their issues (me figures something went wrong when the beta program switched to the current official version). Have done it but haven't logged a session yet at this time so I can't confirm.

You shall be seeing 6.83 (aa535c7).

Thanks Guys. I wrote to Garmin and got a response that beta firmware does not install on a Fenix 5x APAC model. :-(

GCM data cleared, cache cleared, uninstalled, phone rebooted, reinstalled, repaired. Apparently workouts are now transferred immediately. As of right now a workout was auto-transferred but I took no notification about it (neither on the phone nor on the watch). So... looks like it works. If auto-upload is idle, following the aforementioned procedure should do.

GCM still sometimes hangs (you can press the back button as many times as you want on the phone but it will not close and go back to phone's homepage).

Hi every time I use the menu button, the watch face switches back to the original watch face for a couple of seconds and then back to the watch face I'm using, didnt notice this when running the firmware

I think I have a clue about what's going on with auto-upload and GCM.
But there's also a problem with the HRM Swim detection. It is detected but sometimes there's no notification. I took notification 34' into the session when the watch passed close to the HRM (underwater). No notification for the next session (log saved, then opened activity again, waited, waited, waited, waited... no notification at all).

This is embarassing and the DEVs aren't helping since they just don't reply...
