Assioma/Watteam and Fenix 5?

A couple of the newer entrants into the power meter market have brought PM's into the realm of affordability, and I'm keen to get some of the benefits of training with power. But I'm a little cautious given the issues surrounding the F5 and Stages with the ANT+ and BLE issues.

Does anyone have any experience using the Favero Assiomas or Watteam's Powerbeat PMs with a Fenix 5?
  • I have the Assioma Uno, not the Watteam - I posted the link to the Watteam in response to the query about price. I have my watch mounted on the bars (just to the left of the stem).

My understanding is that with dual-sided PM's, the convention is that the left side is the master, and the RH side the slave (ie. the RH side transmits its data only to the left side, and the left side transmits both the left and right channels to the head unit). The Uno is left side only (they supply a matching non-PM right pedal).

So mounting/wearing the watch on the LH side should result in less interference from frame, spinning crank arms or your body.

I had the Fenix 5 slate also with Watteam dual sided & confirm it does not work well with the Fenix 5. ANT+ was unusable, BT more stable, but not 100%. I returned the Fenix as the Watteam was stable with other headunits. Im now looking at the FR935.

My Favero Assimo Duo arrived today and connected no problem via Ant+ to my F5, more importantly it stayed connected throughout my turbo dialing in session. I didn't try via BLE as you get more metrics using Ant +. I did get the option to connect via BLE on the Fenix 5 as it did see both the left and right pedals. Attached is a very clean power graph so I am now a happy bunny. Bring on the weekend ride.
  • The chicken is a happy bunny? That's quite a menagerie there. ;)

But that is a much cleaner power graph.

Bought the Favero Assioma Duo and rode with it for the first time on Monday, using my Fenix 5S (so not the 5) to record over ANT+. Ride was indoors on a trainer, the Watch was laying on the table in front of my bike (so further away than you would normally have it when riding).

My conclusion based on this one ride: zero issues! :)

I've analyzed my files using the DCR tool, to compare my Tacx Flux power meter with the Assioma Duo. In case anyone is interested, here is the data:
