Fenix 5X - Backlight Gesture settings goes back to "off" position every time I sync

Hello,

I've noticed annoying problem with my Fenix 5X.
I try to set Backlight Gesture to "After Sunset" but every time I sync it goes back to "Off" position.
It applies only to this section:
Settings -> System -> Backlight -> Not During Activity -> Gesture
Other settings like Keys or Timeout are fine.

Any suggestions?

Best regards,
Mariusz
  • Hello,
i have nearly the exact same issue. The only difference: i have set the backlight gesture to "Off" on the watch and after it (*details*)Syncs via Wifi it is "On" again.

Details: (Scenario 1 and Scenario 2)
    1-i set "backlite-geture off" in the watch-settings
1-i sync via Wifi WITHOUT logging in garmin.connect via Web-browser at all
1- dialogue on the watch-screen ends after "updated successfully"
    1-settings remain unchanged, everything fine

    2-i set "backlite-geture off" in the watch-settings
2-i sync via Wifi WITH logging in garmin.connect via Web-browser (no difference if actually logged in, or have been logged in at any time before syncing!)
2-on the right top there is shown a small "1" for "1 item to sync = Device settings"
2-sync dialogue on the watch-screen shows one more screen after "updated successfully" => "loading display design"
    2-settings change, backlite-gesture to "ON"

If i Sync via Bluetooth, nothing changes.
Fenix 5X on 5.84beta , no other issues. It applies only to this section: Settings -> System -> Backlight -> Not During Activity -> Gesture

    Best regards,
    Thomas
  • I think I've managed to solve my problem.

I guess there must have been an error or corrupted data on server, being downloaded every time I synced.

I decided to do reset of my F5X but this time I've also removed it from Garmin Connect (watch icon top right -> device settings -> little gear icon -> delete). I also reinstalled mobile apps.
After that, everything went back to normal. It's working for two days now without any problems.

    Hope that helps!

  • Hello Mariusz,
thanks for your reply and for posting your solution!!! My problem remains the same on Software 6.0.
My question is: what information on the watch and on garmin connect was lost, when you did as you explained. You did a hard-reset?

    Thanks and best regards,
    Thomas
  • The problem isn't in the firmware, it is in the GC settings overwriting the watch (it does this for a range of settings). I'm not even sure that that a reset of the watch is necessary - removing the watch from GC and reinstalling the mobile app should remove the conflicting settings.
  • Hi everyone,

First, we apologize about this issue. We have been troubleshooting this bug with the Garmin Connect team. They will be implementing a fix, but it also needs to coordinate with our release of a new beta version. Our next beta (after 7.10) should be available soon, and it will resolve this issue. Keep an eye on the forums next week!

Right now a hard reset should not be necessary to fix this. But you would need to completely remove the device from your Garmin Connect account and re-add it. This will prevent the incorrect settings from being sent to your device during syncs.

Again, we apologize for the inconvenience.

    Thanks,
    Mel
