Garmin Express Cycling Map Update Failure

I'm on the latest beta for my 5x and I noticed today when I tried to sync the watch via Garmin Express that a map update is available for the cycling map. This fails at the "preparing device" phase. I have almost 6GB of free space, so I don't think that is the issue as the file size of the update is listed a 2.13GB.

I've sent the express log to Garmin but there isn't anything really obvious there

Basically there is a line that says
"System.AggregateException: A Task's exception(s) were not observed either by Waiting on the Task or accessing its Exception property. As a result, the unobserved exception was rethrown by the finalizer thread. ---> System.ServiceModel.FaultException: The creator of this fault did not specify a Reason."

which appears to be another way of saying "this went poorly."

Is anyone else seeing this error?

Unbelievable! What?s happening with Garmin? Again the update does not work at all.

And they have taken it back again at least now I don?t see it
  • Same to me: FW 6.0 - no sync (activities and maps) possible, same error.

But I have other problems with 5x and 3HR, too. max HR (Running) is sometimes set by random values, e.g. 0 or 169 (my lactate threshold is set to 170 which is correct; why is max reset to other values which can't be correct; maybe 0 could be correct if I'm dead, but anyhow then I don't have a lactate threshold of 170).
One (3HR tells me a VO2 of 50, 5x tells me 47 and Garmin connect reduces to 46???)

Garmin software was more reliable one year ago.
  • I have fenix 5x yesterday i install firmware 6.0 now i control with garmin express no message cycle mag update anymore
  • Thought I would try to install again this morning for giggles. Looks like its pulled again - hopefully the next one will be right!

I don't really need the update but find I want it now because its there and I can't have it. :-)

Same problem with Ver 6.0 on my Fenix 5Xciq.forums.garmin.com/.../1255474.jpg
  • I see they have put up a new version of the Routable Cycle Map, version 2017.10. I still cannot load it; getting the same error as a few days ago. I have a fenix 5x running firmware version 5.40.
