Garmin Express Cycling Map Update Failure

I'm on the latest beta for my 5x and I noticed today when I tried to sync the watch via Garmin Express that a map update is available for the cycling map. This fails at the "preparing device" phase. I have almost 6GB of free space, so I don't think that is the issue as the file size of the update is listed a 2.13GB.

I've sent the express log to Garmin but there isn't anything really obvious there

Basically there is a line that says
"System.AggregateException: A Task's exception(s) were not observed either by Waiting on the Task or accessing its Exception property. As a result, the unobserved exception was rethrown by the finalizer thread. ---> System.ServiceModel.FaultException: The creator of this fault did not specify a Reason."

which appears to be another way of saying "this went poorly."

Is anyone else seeing this error?

Just got a 5X for Christmas, connected for the first time and seems i am getting this error. By looking at this seems is not resolved and is persistent. Garmin any new/updated advice please..!! I have followed all steps and checks as per previous posts, frustrating that a brand new product and i can't update to latest maps....trying to install "2017.10 Routable cycle map Australia and New Zealand". Watch has software version 7.10.
  • Well we have reached version 6 of GC and a lovely surprise for all us frustrated 5x owners. Map still will not update. Garmin really do not give a toss. Very disappointing.
  • After being stuck for a while, I think most of ours updated a while back. Perhaps reset the watch?
  • I am still having the same issue with my 5X (Australia).

I was having this issue for a frustratingly long time.

I checked the cycling map for Australia on Basecamp Mac. It sucks up the maps stored on the device into RAM. If you pull down the map selection box it seems to show the correct version number of the Express failed update?
  • I am not having this issue any longer, so I suspect it was fixed for the majority of us.

Seems most of us having issues are from Australia. You a skip or elsewhere?
  • I have had this problem since October last year on my 5X. I have been working with Garmin support and I have done most of what they suggested before they suggested it and more multiple times plus multiple resets. The last thing they asked me to do about a week ago was to delete all the gmapcycle.* files and "it should install". Well I had already tried this before but figured ok lets give it another try. Useless!

Anyway, I troll these forums and other places every few days to check if there are any solutions. Today I decided to try and find the maps to manually install. I accidentally came across this link (http://www8.garmin.com/support/downl...s.jsp?id=11429). Express was updated to provide software 7.60 and my express installation which is the same version as the one at this link was showing that my watch was to 7.10. I re-installed Express and the I didn't even need to update my Maps because they were already on 2017.10. Funny thing is the previously installed Garmin Express which I have reinstalled many times over the last few months is still the same version of 6.0.0.0.

I am not sure what they have done with this release but it fixed the pesky up available issue for now.
