Garmin Express Cycling Map Update Failure

I'm on the latest beta for my 5x and I noticed today when I tried to sync the watch via Garmin Express that a map update is available for the cycling map. This fails at the "preparing device" phase. I have almost 6GB of free space, so I don't think that is the issue as the file size of the update is listed a 2.13GB.

I've sent the express log to Garmin but there isn't anything really obvious there

Basically there is a line that says
"System.AggregateException: A Task's exception(s) were not observed either by Waiting on the Task or accessing its Exception property. As a result, the unobserved exception was rethrown by the finalizer thread. ---> System.ServiceModel.FaultException: The creator of this fault did not specify a Reason."

which appears to be another way of saying "this went poorly."

Is anyone else seeing this error?

Last Cycle Map update attempt went fine on my 5x :).
  • Finally! Was failing yesterday, but prompted by the success messages above, I decided to have another go and it's updating as I type...
  • Seems they have fixed this. Latest update, 2017.10, installing now with no issues. :)
  • Mine is already on the way :)
  • Maps seem to have installed... however, the watch is just stuck on the "Loading maps..." screen now. I've tried holding the power button down to switch off, but each time I switch back on it only ever gets as far as the "Loading maps.." screen before freezing up again. Or maybe it's just taking a very long time to load the maps?

This is a huge map to be loaded. The watch can get stuck in loading maps for up to an hour so just let your watch sit there on that loading screen for as long as required.
  • I recently received a replacement device I requested due to a different problem I had with my F5X.

After connecting to a PC there is no Cycle Map 2017.10 update available. In fact Garmin Cycle Map 2016.20 is not even listed in Garmin Express as one of the maps installed on the device. I'm sure it is there since I can see it in BaseCamp and in Garmin folder when connected to Windows PC.
In my old watch the map was listed in GE and update available.
Any idea how to force the map update in such situation? ciq.forums.garmin.com/.../1267440.jpg
