Map drawing issues with fw 5.30

  • I also have the map (openmtb) which looks different on the watch from basecamp ( zoom and detail dos not change it), but I am not sure if on 4.10 it was better or not, because I installed later.

Do the other methods give you turn-by-turn warnings?

    No, not. :)

I am talking about GPX files (e.g. downloaded from Wikiloc) without points of the turn. Before FW 4.21 B very often I had such a view:

Now I don't have this problem.
Test FIT file (TCX2FITRC1) is showing lines.
  • I have a couple of leads from phoglund_ about what the problem might be.
One more clarification - does the test FIT file from my program have turn by turn in it? Or was that gpx>tcx>fit?

I not much can help. I know nothing in this field. :(
I never used FIT files with points of the turn.
I tried only one file as an experiment.
  • Thanks - that is actually very useful information, because it means this is not a problem with how those are set up. If you're interested in helping out, PM me your email address. I'll either send you converted files or test versions of the program. No worries if you're too busy.
  • I had been in communication with Garmin support about this issue, including performing various troubleshooting exercises, but it's all gone quiet now so I wonder if they have given up?

Being sad, I've done quite a bit of testing on this becasue it was happening everytime I used the map screen during an activity which was really quite frustrating.

For me the issue of the map not redrawing only occurs if you scroll through the data screens at the start of the activity and then back onto the map screen. If I start an activity on the map screen and don't move from that screen during the activity, then there is no issue.

As a few others have mentioned, if the map stops redrawing, then moving onto a different screen and then back again or zoomiing in/out starts the map drawing again, although this is not a permanent solution because you then have to do it again after a few minutes.
  • Mines having difficulty drawing maps too , with both talkietoaster maps and Birdseye maps , had no issues on previous firmware
  • Well, that's puzzling. There isn't anything particularly weird about how my fit files are created. Would you mind sharing the course fit files with me, so I can look into this?
Do the other methods give you turn-by-turn warnings?

I should note that the Garmin course creator has switched from putting all the coursepoints (turn markers) at the end of the file to interspersing them with the trackpoints defining the course, and I haven't yet updated my software to do this, and I've had reports from F5 users that this causes odd behaviour when you join a course anywhere but the end, because the watch doesn't give the turn alerts.

    Hi McBadger,

On the Fenix 5X, once he accepts .gpx files, Is there a need for your tool other than TBT?

    Thank you,
  • Not really. Supporting TBT from 3rd-party sites is what it's for. It does also let you rescale the speed of the course, but currently only to the same speed across the whole course.
  • Still a very usefull tool I use a lot on the Fenix3 and will continue using on Fenix5 when TBT is required. Thank you so much.
