Some settings and alarms being lost - please help!

I got my new Fenix 5X yesterday, an upgrade from my Fenix 3 Sapphire (not the HR version). I have done all the updates and started to customise some of the settings however I am finding that it is not remembering some of the settings and any of the alarms I set and I am finding that they are lost within an hour or so. So far the settings I have noticed that are not remembered are the sound settings for key tones, Alert tones and Key vibe. I have turned the watch off and restarted it but that makes no difference. I have found that it is sometimes (possibly always) caused when it syncs with Garmin Connect on my phone.

Can anyone help? I didn?t get this with the Fenix 3 and it is very frustrating especially the alarms!

Thanks.
  • This is crazy! I want distance set to miles and temperature set to Celsius. I can do that on the watch so 1. why cant I have the same settings on Garmin Connect and 2. Why doesn't it sync both ways!!!

I hope somebody is working on this!!!
  • Ok... fingers crossed I had a little bit of success today. I had another go at talking to Garmin UK today. I spoke to someone who was very helpful. They happened to be wearing a Fenix 5 and I got them to try out the issues. They confirmed they experienced the same, understood my frustration and agreed it wasn't right. I ended up spending a long time on the phone and they have reported it. They stated they had heard something about this before but no one has reported it!!! I explained that I had also heard that the issue exists on other models as well. They stated it would now be investigated. I should hopefully get updates on the case via email. Hopefully there might be some progress on this now! Or am I being too optimistic?

Do you have any details of the person you spoke to at Garmin UK as I'll report it to them as well. I've tried to report it in the past with a pretty generic reply of resetting my watch etc.
  • Yes. His name was Nathan. I also have the reference number etc of the case but I left it at work. I will post when I find it.
  • Oh... I forgot to say... I had also had the "Please reset your watch" and "It is supposed to work that way" type discussions with Garmin. You need to insist that they try it themselves on a watch while you are on the phone. It doesn't take long to prove!

The issues I have found so far are...

    Alarms being lost
Temperature resetting from Celsius to Fahrenheit - there is only an option for Kilometres or miles on Garmin Connect so you can't set the individual units as you can on the watch
Key tones / key vibration etc settings

I stated to them I could see that there is nothing wrong with the watch, it is a problem with Garmin Connect.

  • A case was opened by Nathan at Garmin UK on 14/07/2017. The reference number (case ID) is 1365209

Let me know how you get on.
  • It looks as though the alarms issue (and the other issues I mentioned) have all been fixed!

Can anyone who was also suffering from these issues give them a try and let me know if they think they are OK or otherwise?

  • On my F3, I was seeing issues with units being either all metric or all imperial (as opposed to the normal-for-the-UK mix of miles for distance, metres for height and C for temperature). This is resolved now, I can set any mixture I want on the watch again.

I just tested it. I went on and turned an alarm off from the watch, and then opened Garmin Connect and the alarm went back on. So not fixed for me at least.
  • The units overwrite issue on both my Fenix 3 and Fenix 5 was fixed a couple of weeks ago (definitely on the Garmin Connect server side, as the software had not changed on either watch when the fix arrived). The alarms and settings overwrite by Garmin Connect or one way sync (whatever you want to call it) is known by the guys at Garmin, they've even posted recognition of the issue on these forums way back when people first spotted this issue shortly after release of the Fenix 5 series. As I understand it though, it will take a significant update to both the Garmin Connect servers and watch device OS to get 2 way sync working; so that's the goal, but how long it will be before they get to that point is unknown.
