Default map

Hi all,

I just bought a map from Talkytoaster and while it's easy to ask my X5 to use it by default in the different sports, I have no clue how to ask it to use it as a default map while opening the "map" or "navigation". Also is there a way to delete the maps that are coming with the watch and are no use to me because I live in Canada (like the US TOPO?)

What am I missing?

Thanks!
  • Salut/Hi Starskins

I've bought the same mapset as you from Canada, Québec to Talkytoaster.
Sorry, but can't help you yet.
What i received is an .img. What do i do with it? Just place it in the Garmin folder?

    Thx,
    Stéphane

Yes, drop it into the Garmin folder on the device.

Translation: it works pretty well and I love the map. I just have no clue how to ask the watch to use the bike lane instead of the road. Anyone has an idea?

Yes, you drop it in the garmin folder. Do you know how to ask your watch to use the bike lane instead of the road?

    Hi Starskins,

    Steph
  • Hi Starskins

I've installed the map finally. It load great. Hove to play a little with other map to discover in which rank it will show.
For your question about cycling path, i don't know how to force it to use it. It doesn't seem to be possible to have the course go right away on it...

If you find something, let me know!

    Salut Steph,

elles font "l'affaire" oui.

  • Which Map

You can choose which map your fenix 5X uses:
    • 1. Open the activity settings.
    • 2. Select Map.
    • 3. Select Configure maps.
    • 4. Each enabled map will have a green bar on the right side and each disabled map will have a white bar.
    • 5. Have only the maps you want your watch to use Enabled (green bar). This can be selected with the Start/Stop button.

You will also want to set up your routing settings for that activity.
    • 1. Open the activity settings.
    • 2. Select Routing.
    • 3. Select the type of activity. Note: if you select Direct Routing, you will only get a straight line to your destination and it will not follow any roads or trails.
    • 4. Choose Courses: Use Follow Course if you have a loaded course you want to follow exactly. Use Map is for selecting your destination and having the course follow the roads/trails in your map.
    • 5. Calculation Method and Avoidances should not be ignored.

This way, if you enable only your TalkyToaster map and select Use Map then your course should follow the bike path.

    Hi,

Thank you for your reply! I did exactly what you've said but it seems that the watch is going to use both the normal road and the bike path to make the trip faster and shorter...
  • Other map choices

You may want to look into other map providers. I use and have donated to these two:
