Fenix 5X APAC product thread

Forum moderators can we get a separate thread for the 5X APAC? It clearly has different software because it won't accept the beta or 3.3 release and there is no mention of it in any official release notes so it must be a different product. Given that the 5 and 5s have a separate strand surely us APAC users who pay premium prices for the joy of watching the various internal support groups argue about who should support us while not actually providing support, should at least get our own thread .

    Sorry, but this is incorrect.
I have an APAC version running 3.44 beta perfectly.
No issues with 3.30 or any previous builds either.
All have worked as they should.

Interesting comment in the current beta thread:
Please read the 'notes' and 'installation instructions' in the 'Updates and Downloads' page found in the link below. We look forward to your feedback. As a FYI, beta updates are not compatible with APAC devices.
I seem to remember reading there are watches that have APAC maps which are not strictly APAC versions, and there are full APAC versions. I guess you do not really have an APAC version.

So how do we know if we have an APAC version?
  • Forgive my ignorance, but what's an APAC version?

Asian-Pacific. Part number wise (I see it in ConnectIQ land), "APAC" isn't often a single device, as there's one for chinese, another for japanese, another for korean, etc. The big thing is that they often support English and that language only, due to the complexity, etc, of those languages.

Another kind of common term is "ROW" devices (rest of world).

It would be nice to know exactly where Garmin believes APAC covers. For example, Australia and NZ are in the APAC region. I have a genuine Australian 5X and have ran every beta software since release - including the current 4.02b where it warns that beta's aren't compatible with APAC versions. Some clarity on this issue would be much welcomed.

I have an APAC F5 and an Australian FX. The APAC F5 shows up as a 'APAC fenix 5 sapphire' in GC on my Mac and the Garmin webupdater. The F5X shows only 'fenix 5X'. This illustrates that true APAC fenix products will show up as such in GC and elsewhere. Put another way, the Aussie fenix products are not APAC products.
  • Version 3.40 now on APAC F5X

I just got version 3.40 pushed onto my watch today via Garmin express. Which is good but no mention of it here as a reased version or what is in it.

I will review the various betas but it would be nice if there were some official notification.
On the maps items there are separate downloads for the maps which i dont see how they would affect the software. The only difference i would expect to see on the APAC version is the wifi channel support (which doesnt seem to be there anyway) and different message strings which i would not expect to see change much between releases and there isnt any reason why theyd be harder to do for Asia than any other foreigh languages

Id be happy to reimage my watch as an Aus,UK or US version if that is possible , i dont need the language support or the map support.
