AMAZON sent me APAC version -Should I send back???

I had to return my original Fenix 5 over a host of issues (Bluetooth, GPS etc). Well, the replacement just arrived and it is an APAC (Asian/Pacific) version. I Live in Chicago and it was sent from Kentucky so go figure.

Garmin support said it would be ok other than a longer time to acquire the GPS the first time I used it. But they also said to contact them if I had any other issues. That gave me pause.

Is anyone else using an APAC version in the continental US. I know the firmware updates seem to lag non-APAC versions but is there anything else that might be an issue?

The bottom line, should I send this back or is it no big deal?

Thanks in advance for the advice?
  • There is often a delay in the firmware updates for APAC devices, and you're limited in what languages you can load. I'd send it back and get a "Rest of World" device if it was me. (APAC devices are actually a different part number)

I wonder if someone got an APAC device over seas, didn't want an APAC, ordered one from Amazon, and put the APAC device in the box and returned it to Amazon. Easier than exchanging it where ever is was originally bought, I'd guess.
  • I was leaning toward a return but your msg put me over the top...just got off the phone and yet an another new watch will be here Tues. I am also curious as to how the APAC got in the pipeline. I do notice that my original was "sold by Amazon" . However, the replacement was "sold by" another vendor but "fullfilled" by Amazon as will be its replacement. Amazon must be out of stock. The CS rep assured my I would get the rest of world version. We will see.

    thanks again
