Unwanted watch face settings reset (with all watch faces)

Hi!

I bought a Fenix 5X two weeks ago and I really like it.
In the last few days I noticed that every once in a while, the active watch face settings revert to default. This has happened with different watch faces (I used 3, and the problem happened with all of them).
Wi-Fi sync is enabled, I will try to disable it and see if anything changes. I normally sync the watch with my iPhone, but the problem doesn't seem to be related to this, as it always happened when I wasn't doing anything particular with the watch or phone (once I was sleeping, the other times I was busy at work).

This is very annoying as I have to change the settings every day. Right now I decided to live with the default, until I figure out what the cause of the problem is.

Anybody experienced the same issue? Any ideas?

Thanks!

Stefano
  • pretty crazy that almost 6 months later, this seemingly basic feature is still broken. this coupled with the poor cable connection makes me regret not keeping my fenix 3HR sometimes.
  • Is there anything common as far as phone type if it's sync related? Are the people seeing this all using iPhones or Android for example?
  • I have seen this periodically, although not for ages until I upgraded to 6.71. Not sure when the settings disappear, and if it is sync related. I use an android phone.
  • ive not found anything that specifically causes it; seems random. i can set it up and manually sync with my phone a few times without issue. i only use my phone, i dont use garmin express for syncing. ive only used it for map updates and the last time i did that was a couple months ago if not longer. there is no specific activity or event that triggers it. i will just look at my watch at some point and it will be reset; or ill wake up in the morning and find it reset at some point while i was sleeping.

i have an "early" 5X, i was able to snag one at release when supplies were low and have the silver pins with crappy connection. ive used it with 3 different phones, S7 Edge, G6 and currently a Note 8. ive experienced this through numerous firmware updates; official and betas
  • Is everyone seeing this running 6.71? Like gasterpod, I've not seen or heard of it in a long time.
  • running 6.0, not the beta. got tired of trying to copy files over with the flaky connection.

    Hi Guys,

Ok thanks to the finding from brstreetlaw, I've found a workaround of sorts. It's not a good one though, garmin needs to fix it.

I had issues where if i set the watch faces up on GE, it works fine for ages, including when i do a wifi sync.
However, if I had set the watch face up in IOS GC, and then later did a wifi sync (direct to cloud), the watch faces reset.

    The issue is that you can only use ONE of the methods to sync your watch. There are infact three methods, but it's split into two groups, allow me to explain ;

    1) Garmin Express on PC. 2) WIFI (connects direct to cloud). 3) CIQ app on Smartphone (blue tooth).

Method 1 and 2 are the same ... if you use GE to configure a watch face, it will hold, even if you then use WIFI ... it holds forever ... doesn't reset the watch face.

But, the moment you use a smartphone to sync, the watchfaces all get reset. You can of course re-do the watch face config from the phone, but if oyu are like me and you use WIFI ... then as soon as you do wifi it gets reset.

So for me, I am now going to only ever use GE and WIFI ... but it means no smart notifications, and no configuration possible via the Smartphone (IOS-Bluetooth for me).

Alternatively, you could resort to only using the Smartphone .. and never use WIFI, never use GE.

Garmin need to sort this out.
