Unwanted watch face settings reset (with all watch faces)

Hi!

I bought a Fenix 5X two weeks ago and I really like it.
In the last few days I noticed that every once in a while, the active watch face settings revert to default. This has happened with different watch faces (I used 3, and the problem happened with all of them).
Wi-Fi sync is enabled, I will try to disable it and see if anything changes. I normally sync the watch with my iPhone, but the problem doesn't seem to be related to this, as it always happened when I wasn't doing anything particular with the watch or phone (once I was sleeping, the other times I was busy at work).

This is very annoying as I have to change the settings every day. Right now I decided to live with the default, until I figure out what the cause of the problem is.

Anybody experienced the same issue? Any ideas?

  • Thanks for the info. So looks like syncing with the phone (iOS) and everything is reset.

    Did you try turning the watch off and back on when things were reset to see if things came back (No idea if this would help, but might be a clue - like the settings are fine, but can't be read for some reason)

    same thing happens to me with Gearmin watchface, a few times a day it resets to default. next time ill try to turn off-on the watch
  • If I open Garmin Connect in iOS and check all the settings for the watch faces that reset, they are all back to default.
    With Gearmin I am unable to save the settings. App says "settings applied", but nothing changes in the watch and if I open again the settings page in the app they are the default ones.

    I tried to restart the watch, but the setting are the default ones.

    There are two types of settings. Things like 12/24hr, Miles vs km, as well as watch face specific (colors, etc). Which are getting reset for you?

    As this seems to involving syncing, please note if you have an Android, iOs or Windows Phone. (it could only be with iOS for example)

    For folks having this problem, it might be worth trying with the new beta FW that came out today

    The issue is related to the layout of the watchface (colors, data fields, etc.)
  • Description of the probem

    Here's exactly what is happening - on 3.30 but also the latest 3.44 beta firmware:

    For Connect IQ watch faces with customization settings (e.g. colour, data fields, and other options), you can change those settings in one of two places: Garmin Express on the PC, and Garmin Connect Mobile on the smartphone.

    • If you customize the watch face options through Garmin Express and sync via USB cable, your customizations only stay in place until the next sync with Garmin Connect Mobile, which overwrites your customizations and replaces them with the defaults for that watch face.
    • If you customize the watch face options through Garmin Connect Mobile and sync via Bluetooth, your customizations only stay in place until the next sync with Garmin Express on the PC, which overwrites your customizations and replaces them with the defaults for that watch face.


    Temporary workaround: uninstall the watch face from Garmin Connect Mobile. Reinstall from Garmin Connect Mobile. Sync via BT. Customize from Garmin Connect Mobile. Sync via BT. Do not connect to Garmin Express.

    Garmin: you need to make these apps respect and copy each other's customizations in Connect IQ watch faces, rather than letting them overwrite each other's customizations on the watch.
  • It seems to be worse than that. I installed mine via GC mobile (Android) and set it up via bluetooth - today it's just lost its settings (Handsfive watch face) after a USB connection - but to a wall adapter rather than a computer running Express.
  • I upgraded to 4.10 and also the iPhone app is at the latest version and now it seems even worse than it used to be.
    In the past I would experience the watch face settings reset every once in a while, now it happens all the time.

    Same issue

    Hi,
    I'm having the same issue. I'm on android.
    I use the chrono style watch face.
    Everyday I keep configuring the watch face to my liking and everyday it keeps getting reset to default.
    It's kinda annoying!

    I too have this issue. It's preposterous and Garmin need to fix it.

    All my CIQ watch faces randomly get reset to null.

    It makes me want to never sync. I've tried resetting them in Garmin Express, aswell as the app on Iphone, aswell as WIFI... both work, but then some time later, it resets again after syncing via ANY of those means.

    Watchface maker say its fault of Garmin.
