Still no training status!

So 3 weeks of running, road biking and mountain biking... and still no training status. Can't figure would what's the deal. I'm coming from decades of Polar and lately Suunto software and watches, so I'm pretty new to Garmin. Watch says to run outdoors with heart rate twice. Yea, did that lol. I've got stuff like VO2 max and training load numbers. At the end of each ride or run I'm getting training effect for aerobic and anaerobic which is cool, but no overall training status.
  • you need to use a HR band like HRM Run - else you do not get the training status.

You only need the HR band for certain training metrics, you should be getting a training status after about a week of activities. I would try restoring to default settings and trying again or exchanging the unit.

HRM Run/Tri is only required for other additional features like:
    - HRV Test
    - Advanced Running Dynamics
    - more stable HRM meassurement on more dynamic Sports like Mountain Biking
    - HRM meassurement while swimming

Wrist based HRM meassurement delivered training status on Fenix 5X and e.g. SW Version 3.30 after i think two runs in a week.

Same problem as SRBell. Getting VO2 Max and training load, but no training status. I've only had the watch for a week but I've logged 6 runs and a bunch of miles. Would have expected to see the Training Status by now.

Still no status. And just to be clear, I've been using the Garmin run chest strap for all my biking and running sessions.
  • Just reset the watch, see if that fixes the problem.
  • Did the reset work ?

Very interested in this thread as I am also suffering the same symptoms. I too have reset but can imagine I won't see a Recovery time posted until I do my first exercise.

It may be worth directly contacting (as in by phone or email) Garmin customer support about this.

The feature worked fine for me and I suspect has worked fine for most people; so if you haven't done anything out of the ordinary to break it then it seems like there is an issue that should be reported.
  • Talked to Garmin today and got some answers. Turns out there wasn't enough activities to create a training status. On one hand, that's good news if it works. On the other hand, does this mean if you're primarily a cyclist that training status will never work? In the 3 weeks I've had the watch I've only done three trail runs (rolled my ankle), but 15 mtb and road rides. So it seems training status doesn't include cycling unless you have a power meter. Being the 5X can't calculate a vo2 max estimate without a power meter for cycling, it isn't factored into the training status. Wonder if they could estimate vo2 max for cycling like Suunto does? Can't even get my head around running power on both my road bike and mtb.

Oh, and trail run doesn't give you a VO2 max either.
