Some Stryd questions

What's the easiest way to get clued up on what Stryd is and how to work with it? To be a little more specific what I'm thinking is how do I use it on a run with my f5, I've seen people mention a Stryd ciq app and a Stryd data field but I don't understand the difference. Also once you've captured the data from a run what do you do with it? I'm guessing it doesn't show on Connect and that the majority of people use TrainingPeaks. If that's the case do you need to pay for TrainingPeaks to get the most from it?
  • Hi Angus,

    Thanks for posting on here.
I have also seen rapid VO2 MAX changes, since I started running with Stryd. I have only seen one positive change, which took place yesterday.

It seems odd to me to...

    Happy Days

Glad to have some good news to report. I've switched my Stryd unit to my left shoe (I wear my watch on my left arm) and have now completed 4 consecutive runs without a single dropout on my Fenix 5. Watch and phone have been connected and also my HRM belt. Happy to switch it back on for distance as well as pace now too. Just for info, I haven't bothered with the latest BETA and am running FW v3.30
  • I was interested in the Stryd, but not so much looking at their website.

Only the Fenix 5X is listed in the compatibility list, not the Fenix 5

    Hi Striff,

    Thanks for your message.

Stryd is compatible with the Fenix 5 watch. However, as you have noticed, it is not listed as compatible on our site. We do not feel comfortable recommending the Fenix 5 to Stryd customers right now. There are sensor stability reports facing the Fenix 5 right now. We have seen reports that all ANT+ sensors including Garmin's heart rate monitor, Garmin's run dynamics pod, bike power meters, and Stryd consistently drop out with the Fenix 5.

Please email me at angus [at] stryd.com and I will keep you updated when there is an update on this issue.

    Best,
    Angus & the Stryd Team

    Thanks Bernie.
Will do, I currently have a Fenix 3, but would like a Fenix 5, but the GPS accuracy is what is preventing me buying one, so was looking at the Forerunner 935 as it seems to have better GPS....
But if from what I have read and understand, using the Stryd foot pod gives a lot better results on distance, this may sway me to get the Fenix 5...

I am using my Stryd footpod (with 935) and have it set for speed and distance always and it's working out perfectly. I also have a Apple watch 2 which use GPS and the distances and speed are almost spot on with the Stryd (which I think is more accurate) on known distances and paces I've run for the past year and a half. I didn't have such luck when I had my Fenix 5s but I'm hoping the good folks at Stryd and Garmin can sort the issues out as I really like the look and feel of the Fenix 5s sapphire and might get another one if the issues are fixed.

Well my Fenix 5 and Stryd are now working perfectly in sync just because of how I have placed them. The last 6 runs have been dropout free which is amazing considering the previous 36 were riddled with them. So no FW update required, it just needed a change of position for the Stryd and indicates an ANT+ range issue with the watch. Let's hope Garmin can address that and halt the number of F5 defectors to the 935

Good to know, after seeing all F5 and 935 watches and trying them on, I have to say I like the look of the F5 best, then the 935. The 5s to me looked cheap (not sure why, just did, could be that it looked real tiny on my wrist)

Fantastic, that is good to here, now it comes to budget, the Stryd is over $300 AUD to buy and have it sent to me in Australia, this is a big dent on what already is an expensive watch to buy.
May just keep my F3 for a bit longer!
  • Are people really buying a Stryd just to get "accurate" distance with an already very expensive device like an Fenix. Been using Garmin Forerunners since 2004 and almost never have had any significant issues with distance accrual - most recently with a 935 and a 735.

That said it does certainly seem that the Stryd is a very good foot pod (and probably the best I have ever used) but personally I bought a Stryd to check out its primary purpose - a power meter!
