Some Stryd questions

What's the easiest way to get clued up on what Stryd is and how to work with it? To be a little more specific what I'm thinking is how do I use it on a run with my f5, I've seen people mention a Stryd ciq app and a Stryd data field but I don't understand the difference. Also once you've captured the data from a run what do you do with it? I'm guessing it doesn't show on Connect and that the majority of people use TrainingPeaks. If that's the case do you need to pay for TrainingPeaks to get the most from it?
  • Any other people using a Stryd with their Fenix 5? Would be good to know if anyone isn't having connectivity issues with it. Personally I have very few problems with my Fenix 5 in terms of connectivity to my iPhone and other sensors that I use. I'm hoping it will be the same with Stryd.

No dropouts, since (FW 2.9) I moved the sensor to the same side as the watch.
  • When is a drop-out not a drop-out?

Today I saw my first pace drop-out with my F5X with Stryd (there is no obvious thread on the F5X forum).
    Or did I?

Garmin Connect shows a clear single drop-out in pace of about 8 secs.
However, when I look at the pace track in SportTracks 3 there is no drop-out in the record at that point or anywhere else!

So is this drop-out problem one of how GC analyses and reports the uploaded file and there is in fact no issue with the watch itself?

Has anyone else with a drop-out issue looked at their pace track on other platforms and if so are those drop-outs still there or not?

What does it look like in the Stryd Power Center?
  • What does it look like in the Stryd Power Center?

Good question. Just checked. Whilst the pace dropped (I was descending some slippery steps in the rain), matching that in SportTracks at that point (though more dramatically), there was no complete drop-out. So that suggests it is a GC analysis issue, at least for this one case for my F5X.

So the next question: Do the drop-outs reported in this thread match drop-outs in the Stryd Power Centre for those individuals?

Today I was able to test out my Stryd properly for the first time. Unfortunately I experienced a total nuclear meltdown and ended up having to soft reset the watch (twice!). The watch and the stryd paired perfectly and as I started my run the numbers were coming in as they should, all was going well. The problem started when I entered into a Strava segment, and the watch in stryd mode did not like it and froze up. I carried out a soft reset and started out again, all working perfectly until the next Strava segment where the same thing happened. Meltdown :( This time the watch froze but I could resume it again, however it was no longer in stryd mode, it had jumped back into run mode, albeit with the GPS deactivated. I was getting time and pace only. I stopped the recording, and saved it. But the watch froze on saving. So I finished my run without the watch recording and did another soft reset at home. I have disabled the Strava segments and will try again tomorrow to see if it works properly.

Had anyone else had any problems with Stryd and Strava segments not working together?

Are you using the Stryd Application? If so remove it and try using the Stryd Data Field. I believe Stryd no longer recommends using the Application.

Thanks for the tip, I will do that and try it out tomorrow on my run. Thank you!!!
  • Performance metrics wrong?

Anyone else noticed that performance metrics and going down what running with stryd set as distance and pace source?
I'm on the F5X boat and just described (and mailed to the beta team) what is happening at my end:

  • Yes my VO2 has tanked since I switched from my Fenix 3 HR to a 935 after London Marathon.

Now, initially I put that down to being tired after the marathon in which I slightly underperformed anyway for a few reasons.

But actually its gone from 59 to 52 in the month since London. And more dramatically since I started using Stryd for speed and distance on 5th May in the Run app, with GPS mapping.

I have lost a bit of sharpness but not that much!

Yes, I definitely recommend using the Stryd Power data field in this situation.

The Stryd IQ app works great, especially on the treadmill and in easy run scenarios. However, the data field offers more flexibility that makes it ideal for most runs.

Thanks for the report on this. We will investigate this and see what is going on here.
