Some Stryd questions

What's the easiest way to get clued up on what Stryd is and how to work with it? To be a little more specific what I'm thinking is how do I use it on a run with my f5, I've seen people mention a Stryd ciq app and a Stryd data field but I don't understand the difference. Also once you've captured the data from a run what do you do with it? I'm guessing it doesn't show on Connect and that the majority of people use TrainingPeaks. If that's the case do you need to pay for TrainingPeaks to get the most from it?

No the dropouts have still not been fixed with FW 3.30. This was my run this morning and you can see five occasions when connection has been lost. I've reported this to Garmin and all they come back and say is that as Stryd is a 3rd party device then it's not their problem and that Stryd no longer have the F5 or F5S on the compatibility list. Only the 5X works flawlessly at the moment (as long as other non F5 devices of course). I had one last try today but am now resigned to having to go back to the Garmin footpod for reliability.

I'm actually failing to see the dropouts, can you help me out?

At the 25 minute mark, check the HR graph; it's going up. Now, look at the pace plot above; see the gap? There's one dropout. Look to the left and right on the pace chart and see those gaps? Yep, more dropouts.

Is that with Stryd connected via Bluetooth or ANT+

No option to connect via Bluetooth. It's connected as a foot pod and using the connect IQ data field to record power and other metrics.

Every run I've done recently has dropouts mostly they are around 13 seconds at a time and usually have around five per 40 minute run. I've still been using the unit for speed but have reverted back to GPS for distance

Oh dear, was I a bit too eager in ordering one? Fingers crossed an update will come along to sort it soon
  • I trust I have not mislead you but the fact I am a F5X owner is in my signature. I experience no drop-outs and was not aware of issues with F5/5S until recent posts. Not that these are long term dropouts from waht I can see in those post of tracks so instant pace information will be good for the vast majority of the time. Distance effects is a bummer but probbaly only minor compared to GPS. Not sure if this is a problem with all but fully expect Garmin and Stryd to sort the issue soonest.

You've not mislead me at all so do not worry.

If there are issues for me I'm sure a fix will only be a few software updates away :)

I experienced some running dynamics dropouts on version 2.90 but 3.30 seems to have cured that. My f5 seems to have been pretty problem free so hopefully the Stryd will work fine for me.

Any Fenix 5 users not having issues with Stryd connectivity?

I have Stockholm Marathon in two weeks and I don't want to switch watches now and play around but after my race I will do some testing.

Any other people using a Stryd with their Fenix 5? Would be good to know if anyone isn't having connectivity issues with it. Personally I have very few problems with my Fenix 5 in terms of connectivity to my iPhone and other sensors that I use. I'm hoping it will be the same with Stryd.

My brand spanking new Stryd arrives tomorrow. I'll do some tests and let you know how it works out for me.
