Some Stryd questions

What's the easiest way to get clued up on what Stryd is and how to work with it? To be a little more specific what I'm thinking is how do I use it on a run with my f5, I've seen people mention a Stryd ciq app and a Stryd data field but I don't understand the difference. Also once you've captured the data from a run what do you do with it? I'm guessing it doesn't show on Connect and that the majority of people use TrainingPeaks. If that's the case do you need to pay for TrainingPeaks to get the most from it?
  • Fantastic, that is good to here, now it comes to budget, the Stryd is over $300 AUD to buy and have it sent to me in Australia, this is a big dent on what already is an expensive watch to buy.
May just keep my F3 for a bit longer!

You can find 10% off codes (coachray) which will bring the cost down slightly - save yourself $20 AUD :)

FWIW, I haven't had any issues with Stryd (and as a matter of fact, with any other sensors) dropouts with Fenix 5 or 935. I don't have Di2 on my bikes, but I've had the watches connected to many different sensors at the same time and never had an issue.

I use he data field though, is the experience different with the full app? And I'm not using it as footpod, which could also make a difference.

The issue could be with some watches... Back in the day, I did have two 735XT test units. The first one worked flawlessly. The second one had issues with the Varia Radar disconnecting. Also, the Bluetooth was not very strong.

  • Kicking this back to the top. Is the fix really just to wear the Stryd on the same side as you wear the watch?
  • Hi @tebiza,

This method can help. However, we are still seeing many reports of unstable connections involving all ANT+ devices on the Garmin Fenix 5.

We are happy to help at support [at] stryd.com if you have any questions connecting Stryd to your watch!

    Best,

I have been very lucky as my Stryd has never dropped out once on my Fenix 5. I wear my F5 on my left wrist and my Stryd is on my right foot. It's not a perfect F5 though as I do have issues with my F5 loosing connectivity with my Stages which Garmin believe is a Stages issue. I struggle to accept this as my Stages connects to my Edge 1000, Forerunner 910XT and my Android phone via bluetooth. My Stryd was bought so I could use it as a run power meter, but I have yet to use it in anger, as in structured training as I have a repeating calf injury.

that didn't work for me BUT a combination of wearing in on my left foot (watch on left wrist) and 5.83 beta firmware and it's rock solid now :)

I've been asked to provide a bit more info on rolling back to the 5.83 beta

now I don't take any responsibility for this but it's what I did and it worked for me

you can download the software from http://gawisp.com/perry/fenix_D2_tactix/ (look for fenix5_583Beta.zip)

I then just then followed the instructions on the beta webpage (http://www.garmin.com/support/download_details.jsp?id=11663#Instruct) to roll back to 5.40 - this will wipe your settings though

once the watch was restarted I then followed the procedure on the beta webpage to install 5.83 (note even though 5.84 says it contains a fix for ANT+ stability issues I found it worse that 5.83)

once you have done this it is important that you turn off auto updates on the watch and set the Garmin express desktop app so it doesn't auto start otherwise your firmware will get updated the next time you connect

I then set the watch up how I wanted it again and installed the CIQ datafield and apps for Stryd and it's worked fine ever since

Garmin have just asked me to send them my FITs files from before I did this to investigate further - I'm not holding my breath!
  • Hi guys.
I use Stryd with Garmin watches.
Now I have no watch and would like continue to use Stryd with Stryd App in my phone.
Please help how to setup calibration of footpod?
