Any way to start and stop sleep manually

With my 920XT I liked the accuracy of being able to start and stop the sleep tracking manually.

Is there any trick to doing that with the Fenix 5X? Is there something I did not catch in the directions?

The automatic has not been very accurate for me - example is that it said I went to bed last night at 9:58 but actually went to bed at 12:20, it did get my wake up right this morning.
  • Another vote more in favor, I am also interested
  • Folks, think what you are asking for! You want Garmin to give you something useful?

What is really needed is for Garmin to give us visibility to customer suggestions so we can vote on them and then they implement feature based on what their customers want. But, Garmin has no concept of what customer service is. All we can do as customers is keep submitting the same suggestions over and over and over until Garmin gets it. But it takes all of us relentlessly submitting. So when you see good ideas by others, submit, submit, submit.

I would tend to disagree with much this for the following reasons:

    1) I do not feel that "Garmin have no concept of what customer service is". Since purchasing my 5X, I have contacted Garmin customer service twice regarding issues I had with the device. Both times they were prompt, courteous and followed up each contact we had with an e-mail either asking if the issue was resolved, or offering suggestions/advice to fix the problem. Personally, I found their service to be better than many of their competitors in the marketplace.

    2) I posted on these forums regarding the issues I had and both times Garmin mentioned the posts in correspondence we had. This shows they have eyes and ears here.

    3) There have been more than a few requests posted in these forums which have made it to beta and then to production FW versions.

Quality of service is entirely subjective (anecdotal), therefore the average weight of 'positive' vs 'negative' experiences must, I believe, outweigh individual bias. With this in mind, I posit users find the majority of experiences satisfactory rather than disagreeable.

Again though, this is simply my own opinion.

Yet - still no ability to manually start/sop sleep - one of issues that get quite a bit of negative attention in the forums on multiple devices. Maybe you can get them to do it..

When i go to bed i edit sleep time in connect. But its not possible to edit an afternoon sleep and auto didnt check any sleep activity.
So a simply widget or activity app would be the thing, just on button start/stop sleep.

    Correlation is not causation.

Maybe you can get them to do it..

Why on earth would this be the case? Logically unsound comparisons and puerile asides do nothing whatsoever to advance our discussion. If a sufficient quantity of users request a function through the appropriate channels, I'm sure Garmin will look in to it. Whether or not they implement those features is an entirely different matter; and realistically, nothing to do with you, me, or anyone else on these forums.

Not true according to you. Look at your own words -

What is true is this it is a common complaint on the forums. What is also true is you don't know how many have requested through the ideas web page because Garmin does not care enough to share submitted ideas and let it's users have vote on what they want. Nor do they even respond to submitted ideas. IMO - this is bad customer service. Also giving polite lip service on the phone should not be construed as good customer service.

I'm afraid we will have to agree to disagree on this until I see evidence to the contrary.

With the greatest of respect, nothing I have posted is in any way contradictory - regardless of your lack of comprehension.
IMHO, some people demand/expect far too much from companies like Garmin et al.

What is true is that this is a common complaint on these forums

And? Garmin have no obligation to implement ideas/requests from this forum. Period. This does not equate to bad customer service.

What is also true is you don't know how many have requested through the ideas web page because Garmin does not care enough to share submitted ideas and let it's users have vote on what they want.

Why would (should) they? They do not claim to offer this type of service. One may wish it, but why would one expect/demand it?

Nor do they even respond to submitted ideas.

    Except that they sometimes do.

IMO - this is bad customer service

No, it's bad customer relations, not bad customer service. If all of one's (quite frankly, unreasonable) complaints were services Garmin claimed to offer but didn't, then yes, it would be bad customer service. However Garmin do not say they offer these services, nor are they obliged to. Getting one's panties in a twist and throwing mud around because one can't have something one wants is a little puerile, wouldn't you agree?

Also giving polite lip service on the phone should not be construed as good customer service.

    Who mentioned phones?

I'm afraid we will have to agree to disagree on this

No problem. Everyone is entitled to an opinion.

until I see evidence to the contrary.

There's plenty of it out there if one cares to take off one's blinkers.

Again, with the greatest of respect, nothing you have said adds anything to the discussion at hand other than anecdotal surmisings and petulant mud slinging, therefore I think I'll leave it there and cease responding.
