I have an F3. My wrist size is 6 3/4" until I open my hand all the way and it swells to about 7". Athletic forearms. I think the F3 looks good, but I'm torn between the 5 and 5X. I would like to like the F5X in order to use the quick fit bands on my F3, maybe as a "beater" if I keep it.

I never once have thought it was too big, I like the feel of the metal band but it does make it heavy, since the I use the 5X as daily wear and my forerunner 935 as my fitness watch it works out good. Patiently waiting for the leather band :)
