Logging additional sleep hours + strength training algorithm

So I've been noticing that F5x doesn't add additional sleep hours from afternoon naps. I usually take a power nap for 1-2 hours if I wake up early in the morning. Currently I only have 4-5 hours registered sleep and it doesn't put into account the extra sleep I take midday.

Edit: I just realised that if you sleep over your preset sleeping range it will not record that extended sleep. My range is from 8-5, sleep at 8:50, woke up at 6:30 but on my F5x it said I woke up at 4:48... guess I'm a sleep walker :/

Garmin please fix.

Also fixing your algorithm for strength training to add into training status would be great, 1 hour in the gym of heavy weight lifting only gives 3 hours ideal rest and absolutely no effect on training status and decreases your fitness level LOL!

I've previously posted about the sleep tracking before, a couple of years ago. It is absolutely awful on Garmin devices.

I'm a shiftworker and my roster is irregular, not cyclic, so I probably have more interest than most in monitoring my sleep time, but Garmin devices are completely hopeless unless you have a very strict sleep pattern. It also doesn't handle splitting sleep or napping and the manual adjustments available don't even allow you to correct it properly if you want to. There whole approach to sleep seems very unintuitive compared to other companies implementations.

I'd be more than happy for them to scrap the deep/light sleep metrics or any similar analysis as it's just marketing fluff if it helped get better accuracy for a basic sleep hours count.
  • I don't have my 5X ATM to check, but I know you can manually log sleep with the F3HR. I've never used it so I don't know if it logs another sleep (or nap) but the option is there. Should it be auto? Personally I don't want that. Garmin's track record for automatic recognition of things isn't great, but they should expand content beyond the surface information they currently offer.

As for training effect number, my 1st 5X was laughably broken. I was getting 0.1 (not a typo) Anaerobic TE during workouts that solely focused on the Anaerobic. I was getting higher Anaerobic TE running a 5k than doing Tabata style HIIT training. Hell, even the aerobic TE was a mess. The watch was a bunch of nope, which is why I returned it.

    Hi,

What I understand that Fenix 5X doesn't track/log naps outside marked sleeping hours. But I would at least like to add the naps data manually using the watch or Garmin connect.
I couldn't find a way how I can edit or add nap data. Could someone please let me know how this can be done.

    Thanks!
  • In case it is the same...

I'm still (impatiently) waiting for Garmin's site to allow purchasing so I'm still on my F3 -- but this is accessed as follows:

Long-push on "up" button to access menu > Settings > Activity Tracking > Go To Sleep

My F3HR has that option but mu F5x doesn't include it.
