I do use a footpod with my F5, but only for indoor, treadmill running, and it is spot on. I used auto calibration on a couple outside runs to get it in the ballpark then switched it to manual and adjusted it to my treadmill. I have no clue which is correct, the treadmill or my F5, I just don't like ending up a run with one or the other 0.5 miles ahead or behind. I'm not a competition runner, and really don't care much about pace. I'm in it for the calorie burn. :)
Cheers
Bill
Yes, I do use Garmin Footpod. Set to Speed/Pace: Always; Distance: Indoor.
Autocalibration adjusts the calibration factor when you are outside with good GPS.
But best to run a known distance and manually adjust calibration factor.
When you get it right the instance pace is excellent (you can not rely on GPS alone for this).
I don't use it for distance outdoors as I find gps distance accrual good now (F3 experience and now F5X).
Once you have it right then naurally indoors (with no gps) it is good for treadmills.
Some like to switch Distance: Always indoors as some indoors arenas you will get a gps signal, just not a good one.
For everything you want to know see DCRainmaker Guide to Footpods https://www.dcrainmaker.com/2011/01/garmin-ant-foot-pods-everything-you.html
Will, when you set the speed/pace: Always does the watch then use the footpod for just instance pace? Or, is it instant pace and lap pace?
The watch uses whatever is the source for Distance to calculate lap pace (lap pace = lap distance/lap time); so the foot pod needs to be set to Distance>Always to get lap pace from the foot pod when running outside with GPS on (otherwise lap pace is calculated from GPS derived distance). What Crispin says.
