Connected... not connected... connected... not connected; weak bluetooth signal

My old Fenix 3 HR would stay connected to my phone via bluetooth at least twice as far as my new F5. Did Garmin decide to gimp the bluetooth transceiver on the F5? It literally buzzes all day long... sometimes when I'm walking only 15 feet away from it. Yes, I can turn off the notification but I really liked how my old Fenix 3 HR would buzz and warn me when I left my phone behind. Nice feature to have. Would hate to lose that feature because of a gimped BT transceiver. I'm hoping that my unit is just defective. Any others here that had a Fenix 3 HR and now have a F5 experiencing the same?
  • Same problem for me!

I have the same issue. It was just great with my Fenix 3 !!!
  • I would say my feinx bluettoth is nowhere near as good as my fr235 was but it does immediately reconnect as soon as i come back in 'range'

I guess this really is about all the power management efforts within all the devices in order to maximize battery life... especially Android really cuts off everything it thinks it doesn't need.
Put as I mentioned, the issue is (at least for me) solved when pairing directly with Android.

I have the same on Fenix 5 in terms of the phone but also won't connect to power meter on any+ and Bluetooth connection is in and out, same goes for Bluetooth HRM. Fenix 3 before it had no such issues.

    Do I?
    Wait for software update
    Get a 5x instead
    Get a 735 instead

    Any help greatly appreciated, vince.

With my Samsung S4 mini (i9195) the reconnectionn works only with an old stock rom (Android 4.2.2). With a custom rom and Android 6 or 7 the reconnects don't work at all...
  • Same problem here with the 5S sapphire. It often disconnects after walking into a different room in the house/office, even though I may only be 10-15m away from the phone.
  • No change with the 2.90 update. I continue to have disconnect/connect when the phone and watch are 3 feet apart, and not nearly the range that my F3 has. Could roam the whole house with the F3, but more than 1 room away with the 5x and it loses connection.

The disconnect/connect behavior gets much worse when I'm near active Bluetooth devices like Nintendo Switch game controllers.

Have u tried using the pairing via the Android Bluetooth system?
  • Do some of us have faulty devices or are all Fenix 5 so bad?
I really miss the fenix3 bt connection. The fenix5 is horrible. sometimes it get disconnected even when the phone is 30cm from the watch (during sleep if I put my hand under the pillow). I know BT signal will be weaken by this, but the F3 had no problem.

I wake up several times during the night because the watch disconnect/connects.

I really hope this is something they can fix. Why so bad on f5 when it worked perfect on f3?
I might contact my local Garmin support and ask.

Anyone mailed Garmin about this and got a reply?

I typed a message into the form but never sent it - ended up resetting the watch to defaults and re-pairing with the phone. Somewhat helped - much less disconnects but still it can loose the connection as you describe - within 30 cm. If you'll decide to ask Garmin directly - please share the result here :).
