Connected... not connected... connected... not connected; weak bluetooth signal

My old Fenix 3 HR would stay connected to my phone via bluetooth at least twice as far as my new F5. Did Garmin decide to gimp the bluetooth transceiver on the F5? It literally buzzes all day long... sometimes when I'm walking only 15 feet away from it. Yes, I can turn off the notification but I really liked how my old Fenix 3 HR would buzz and warn me when I left my phone behind. Nice feature to have. Would hate to lose that feature because of a gimped BT transceiver. I'm hoping that my unit is just defective. Any others here that had a Fenix 3 HR and now have a F5 experiencing the same?

    The same way as with GC, set your phone in pairing mode and scan with your bluetooth , fenix 5 must appear then.

    In your Garmin Connect Mobile App

    --> Menu
    --> Garmin Devices
    --> Tap and hold down on your device (hidden options will appear)
    --> Tap on "Update Connection"

    This should give you instructions on pairing with the native android bluetooth system.

    No! Not on my phone. That's why I asked.

    I remember from my F3 that the F3 appeared during a bluethooth scan, but not with the F5. I just tried again. No show up. With or without F5 in pairing mode.

    After tap and hold down on the f5 device a menue with "cancel", "remove device" "synchronisation" appears. No "update connection"....

    Are you setting your watch (not GC) in pairing mode? I can definitely see a Fenix 5 appearing my bluetooth as available for pairing

    Same here with Galaxy S7 Edge running Android 7.0 and GC version 3.16.1. No option for Update Connection.

    EDIT: After reconnecting the watch to GC again (not removing and re-adding, just reconnecting) the option now shows up, but when I choose it nothing happens.

    Hm... for me it worked when I removed and re-added the device. Or you could try deleting and re-installing GC, setting the Fenix back to factory default and start from scratch. Since it's all synced you shouldn't lose too much... For me, it basically went into pairing mode automatically when I chose the "Update connection" item in the menu.
  • Removed and re-paired it to the GC App and that did not help. Not going any further on this right now, definitely don't want to set everything up again on the watch after a factory reset unless I absolutely have to.
  • this 'weak bluetooth' thing, why do people need the watch to be connected to the hone when they are at the other end of the house???

    lol
  • It's not about maintaining connection far from the phone as much as it is ensuring connection either is maintained or reconnected quickly. Right now at times, even when I am in the vicinity of my phone the connection drops and I need to manually reconnect.
