Fenix 5X Disassembly with Photos

For those who are interested in the internals of their new Fenix 5X, I've put together a disassembly post. Please don't disassemble your Fenix 5X as this would void your warranty and break the waterproof seal. This post is written as a guide, though is not intended to be used as one.

First things first, mask up the entire watch using masking tape. Its not uncommon for your screw driver to slip and cause unnecessary scratches. Then proceed to evenly remove the screws surround the screen.

Next, very careful lift screen 5-10mm to reveal the mainboard which the screen is connected to using a ribbon cable.Using tweezers remove the tape protecting the connector and lift to remove the connector and screen.

Were in! Next remove the ribbon cable on the bottom left and the two screws holding in the mainboard.

Not sure why I can't see the photos....FYI....I purchased a couple of faulty fenix 3's for cheap on ebay. One turned out to be a Sapphire model that I sent back to ebay and they didn't have any plain Sapphire models so they sent me a brand new boxed Sapphire HR model....bonus!

Anyway, I managed to remove the innards of one that was working (but had massively scratched glass) and put it a watch body that had no damage to the glass. A month later (and 2 swims a week) and everything works fine.

I'm eyeing a couple of faulty fenix 5's so wondering if the same might be true for swapping the boards out on those?

You can't see the photos, 'cos disassembler broke the watch during disassembly and there is no photos then. :D

Fenix 3 and Fenix 5 innards are different. Firstly Fenix 5 watches are some smaller than Fenix 3 series. Fenix 5X is almost same as a size.They have different inner board and screen placement etc. Screen connectors are on reverse side. Charge cable pins are probably in a different seperation distance. Vibrators are different. Fenix 3 series had motor based rotating vibrators, Fenix 5X has rectangular vibrator probably more like taptic engine of iphones. There are probably many other differences.
